About the Role:

The Director of Compliance will provide strategic leadership over Extend's regulatory compliance function, setting the direction and long-term roadmap for the infrastructure that underpins Extend's service contract and insurance programs across North America, including all licensing. Reporting directly to Extend's VP, Deputy General Counsel, this person will serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to the executive team on regulatory strategy, risk, and governance, representing compliance in front of regulators, auditors, and cross-functional leadership. This is a strategy and leadership role: you'll set the vision for how compliance scales with the business, build out the team and its structure, and be the executive-level voice for compliance across the company.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Set the strategic direction and long-term roadmap for Extend's regulatory compliance program, spanning licensing, service contract terms and conditions, and insurance partner relationships, ensuring the function scales with the business.
  • Serve as the executive-level owner for regulatory and licensing matters across both business-as-usual operations and new products or initiatives, providing judgment and direction where complexity or risk requires it.
  • Partner with the rest of the compliance team to set priorities, unblock cross-functional dependencies, and continuously improve how terms and conditions, license applications, filings, approvals, and renewals get done.
  • Represent Extend in significant regulatory examinations, inquiries, and audits, working alongside the compliance team and outside counsel.
  • Monitor the regulatory landscape, proactively advising leadership on emerging requirements and risk.
  • Coach and develop the compliance team, and help define the function's long-term structure and career paths as Extend scales.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to embed compliance requirements into merchant onboarding, customer experience, contracting, product workflows and program design.
  • Provide active guidance to leadership on how compliance strategy supports business goals, balancing rigor with the speed the business needs.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for licensing accuracy, timeliness, and cost, and drive continuous improvement across processes and vendor relationships.
  • Set direction on service contract terms and conditions in partnership with outside counsel, reviewing for regulatory accuracy and completeness.
  • Build and maintain the internal controls, documentation and reporting needed to demonstrate compliance to regulators, auditors and partners.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to use AI and other technology to modernize and streamline licensing, filing, and regulatory reporting processes, improving speed, accuracy, and scalability as volume grows.
What We're Looking For:
  • Proven, action- and solution-oriented compliance leader with the ability to operate effectively in both strategic and hands-on environments.
  • Significant experience in insurance, service contract, or regulatory compliance, including experience setting strategy and governance at scale.
  • Experience adding critical value at the executive level as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to proactively tie compliance strategy to the company's commercial needs.
  • Prior experience building, developing, and mentoring high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment, ideally within tech or a regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise managing regulatory relationships, licensing operations, and cross-functional compliance programs at scale.
  • Bachelor's degree required; JD or relevant advanced degree a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills with a high level of attention to detail. ● Direct, clear, concise, and exceptional communicator.
  • High IQ & EQ with excitement to hit the ground running.
  • Bias toward action, accountability, and proactivity with an ownership mentality.
  • Solutions-oriented, strong problem solver willing to roll up sleeves.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Collaborative leader with a strong ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Skilled at earning trust and credibility quickly with an established team.
  • A curious, detail-oriented operator with deep empathy for merchant partners' different needs.
Expected Pay Range: $180,000 - $200,000 per year salaried*

* The target base salary range for this position is listed above. Individual salaries are determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.

Extend does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Life at Extend:

  • Working with a great team from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Competitive salary based on experience, with full medical and dental & vision benefits.
  • Stock in an early-stage startup growing quickly.
  • Generous, flexible paid time off policy.
  • 401(k) with Financial Guidance from Morgan Stanley.
