A day in the life

Join Prologis as Director, Energy Markets and lead the market strategy, forecasting, and commercial optimization activities that support Prologis’ energy platform. You will evaluate wholesale and retail power markets, guide the underwriting and development of energy solutions for our broader real estate platform, manage environmental commodity positions, and develop strategies to optimize market exposure and portfolio value. You will partner with origination, development, finance, legal, policy, execution, and asset management teams to advance Prologis’ clean energy growth objectives. This position reports to the Vice President, Energy Solutions – Americas.


Key responsibilities include:

Market Intelligence & Forecasting

  • Lead analysis of regional and national power market fundamentals, including load growth, commodity prices, transmission constraints, capacity markets, and regulatory developments.
  • Develop and maintain market price, utility rate, and revenue forecasts used to evaluate solar, energy storage, mobility, and speed-to-power opportunities.
  • Monitor and assess key trends affecting large-load customers, including data centers, to provide market insights that support broader strategic planning across the Prologis portfolio.
  • Establish valuation methodologies and scenario analyses that account for weather variability, price volatility, basis risk, and regulatory change.
  • Provide market assumptions and revenue forecasts for the underwriting of behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter energy projects.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders and external market participants to identify emerging opportunities and translate market insights into business strategies.  

Wholesales Market Participation

  • Lead hedging, trading, and optimization strategies for battery storage asset and other energy assets participating in wholesale energy markets (e.g. ERCOT).
  • Develop strategies to manage energy, shape, basis, and ancillary services positions at the project and portfolio levels.
  • Structure commercial products and transactions that manage risk and enhance portfolio value.
  • Coordinate with development, execution, and asset management teams to complete market registration, qualification, and onboarding activities.

Energy Attribute Certificates (EAC)

  • Develop strategies to optimize Prologis’s portfolio of environmental commodities.  Manage short- and long-term environmental commodity positions and execute transactions in accordance with established risk management and sustainability policies.
  • Develop supply, demand, and price forecasts for renewable energy certificates, guarantees of origin, carbon credits, and other environmental commodities.
  • Evaluate opportunities in programs such as the Low Carbon Fuel Standard and other clean-energy credit markets.

Retail Supply

  • Lead power supply strategy and pricing analysis for energy and data center development opportunities.
  • In markets where Prologis serves as a retail energy provider, source and negotiate wholesale power transactions needed to meet customer obligations and manage market exposure.
  • Oversee retail supply positions in accordance with approved commercial, credit, and risk management policies.

 

Building blocks for success

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, engineering, energy or environmental science, engineering or similar preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in wholesale electricity markets (CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO), energy trading, corporate procurement, or energy regulatory strategy
  • Deep familiarity with power pools, RTO/ISO structures, risk allocation, and commercial modeling
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Advanced financial and market modeling skills, including proficiency in Excel
  • Strong leadership, staff management, executive communication, and consensus-building capabilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail, professionalism, and integrity
  • Creative, curious mindset and openness to tackling new challenges
  • Collaborative team player with a supportive approach

Preferred:

  • Experience with cQuant or similar energy dispatch modeling platforms
  • Demonstrates willingness and capability to leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed. Exercises sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.

Hiring Salary Range of: $170,000 - $255,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target & LTI) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
