Job Description Summary
This role develops and executes on BCBSA's annual risk assessment process and implementation of an enterprise-wide approach towards risk mitigation. This role is responsible for planning and leading complex projects to identify and report on significant matters related to ongoing and emerging risks for the organization, including quantifying and prioritizing ongoing and emerging risks and consistent risk mitigation opportunities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with key stakeholders to oversee the identification, assessment, and documentation of risks and controls for new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations, and third-party operations. Formulate and implement risk management policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Builds risk dashboards and reporting formats aligned with the organization's risk appetite.

  • Lead cross-function teams through implementation of processes to enhance the ERM function and related internal and external reporting.

  • Conducts internal trainings regarding BCBSA's ERM function and educates the business to understand and mitigate risks.

  • Leads Blue Cross Blue Shield licensee and external risk management work groups focused on enterprise risk management; monitor and advise on risks associated with industry.

Required Education, Certifications and Experience

  • 10 Years experience in a risk-focused environment (ERM, audit, legal, compliance)

  • Experience developing and implementing an enterprise risk management program.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Strong analytical and critical problem-solving skills. Proficient at recognizing the existence of risks/potential risks and determining actions to be taken. Attentive to details.

  • Excellent judgment and ability to drive projects to completion

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate well with multiple levels of the organization, including executive level and externally.

  • Understanding of applicable rules, regulations and guidelines. Commitment to staying informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks that may impact the organization.

  • Highest degree of integrity and able to work with confidential information.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements applicable to insurers and managed care organizations.

Preferred Education, Certifications and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree Business or accounting degree preferred

  • Masters Degree MBA or Accounting
