ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Director, Risk Advisory leads the Risk Advisory capability within Strategic Client Advisory Solutions. The role establishes a consistent approach for incorporating insurance and risk-management considerations into the wealth strategy process, leads and develops the Risk Advisory team, and personally advises on complex client situations. The Director partners with Wealth Advisors, Wealth Strategists and other specialists to identify protection, liquidity, estate, business succession and wealth-transfer needs and to coordinate appropriate insurance solutions. The role oversees case quality, regional alignment, operating discipline and risk governance while maintaining direct accountability for client and advisor engagement.

Please see below for specific responsibilities and requirements for this role.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities for this role are below; you may support projects of varying complexity based on skill and organizational priorities.

·        Player/Coach Leadership: Lead, coach and develop Risk Advisory consultants while maintaining an active portfolio of complex client engagements and serving as the senior escalation point for advanced insurance planning matters.

·        Risk Advisory Strategy: Translate the SCAS strategy into a practical Risk Advisory operating model, priorities, standards and performance expectations aligned to client value and holistic wealth planning.

·        Wealth Strategy Integration: Own the core risk-assessment questions, decision pathways and documentation standards incorporated into new wealth strategies; ensure identified needs and outcomes are routed to Risk Advisory.

·        Complex Client Advice: Partner with Wealth Advisors, Wealth Strategists, fiduciary professionals and external advisors to assess sophisticated life, disability, long-term care, annuity, liquidity and wealth-transfer considerations.

·        Solution Governance: Provide oversight of case design, insurance recommendations, policy exceptions, carrier and product considerations, documentation and implementation quality within established policies and risk appetite.

·        Regional Coverage: Align consultant coverage by region, monitor demand and capacity, and promote consistent access to Risk Advisory expertise across the Private Bank footprint.

·        Advisor Enablement: Develop education, tools and consultation routines that help advisors recognize risk-management needs and integrate Risk Advisory earlier in the client planning process.

·        Operating Discipline: Establish workflow, service standards, pipeline visibility, client-outcome measures and management reporting; improve processes that reduce administrative burden on senior advisory talent.

·        Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with SCAS, Private Bank, Insurance Operations, Legal, Compliance, Risk and third-party providers to execute solutions and resolve complex matters.

·        Business and Client Outcomes: Support relationship acquisition, retention and deepening by delivering advice-led solutions and measuring success through client value, quality, adoption and execution rather than individual product production alone.

·        Other Duties: Performing other duties as assigned, adapting to new tasks or shifts in priorities as necessary to support your team's and the company's mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Appropriate state insurance licenses for Life, Health and Long-Term Care, as required under Fifth Third licensing guidelines.

·        10+ years of insurance, wealth planning or related financial-services experience, including significant experience with high-net-worth clients.

·        Demonstrated experience leading or coaching professionals and managing complex client engagements in a regulated environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

10+ years of insurance and risk advisory, advanced insurance planning, wealth planning, or related financial-services experience, including significant hands-on experience advising high-net-worth clients on complex life insurance and risk-management strategies. Demonstrated experience with advanced insurance case design, policy analysis, underwriting, carrier engagement, and implementation of complex insurance solutions.

·        Advanced Insurance Planning: Evaluating and explaining sophisticated insurance structures within estate, liquidity, business succession and wealth-transfer planning.

·        Advisory Leadership: Leading a client-focused advisory function while personally delivering complex work.

·        Holistic Wealth Integration: Connecting risk-management recommendations to broader wealth plans and coordinating across multiple specialists.

·        Risk and Regulatory Judgment: Applying licensing, suitability, fiduciary, documentation and escalation requirements in a regulated financial-services environment.

·        Executive Communication: Translating complex concepts into clear recommendations for clients, advisors and senior stakeholders.

Please refer to the “Skills for Success” section to learn how to stand out as an applicant.

SKILLS FOR SUCCESS:

Qualified candidates will possess an advanced degree of proficiency across a suite of skills including, but not limited to:

·        Professional Designations: CLU, ChFC, CFP or comparable advanced insurance or wealth-planning designation.

·        Matrix Influence: Building credibility and driving consistent execution across regions and teams without relying solely on direct authority.

·        Talent Development: Coaching consultants, reviewing work quality and building technical and advisory capability.

·        Process Design: Creating practical assessment tools, workflows, service standards and metrics that scale an advisory capability.

·        Change Leadership: Repositioning a production-oriented activity into an integrated, advice-led client capability.

DOING THE RIGHT THING:

Our employees take pride in doing the right thing for customers and colleagues as well as being accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures that protect all our valuable assets, including you.
