This is a high-impact role designed to drive the company's most important cross-functional marketing initiatives—projects that span multiple organizations, require executive alignment, and demand operational excellence.

The Director of Strategic Marketing Initiatives will lead complex initiatives that sit at the intersection of Marketing, Sales, Product, Customer Success, and Operations. These initiatives often lack clear ownership, established processes, or well-defined operating models. Success in this role requires someone who thrives in ambiguity, can bring structure to complexity, and is equally comfortable developing strategy, redesigning business processes, and personally driving execution.

The ideal candidate combines exceptional business judgment, strong analytical skills, operational rigor, and an AI-first mindset. They are an influential communicator capable of building alignment across executive stakeholders while remaining willing to dive deep into details and personally solve difficult operational challenges.

Example Strategic Initiatives

Examples of programs this role may lead include:

  • Free Trial and Trial-First Go-to-Market Motion

    • Design and optimize the complete customer journey from advertising and awareness through website experience, trial signup, in-product onboarding, sales engagement, and opportunity progression.

    • Identify friction points and improve conversion across the entire funnel using data, experimentation, automation, and AI.

  • Analyst Relations Operations

    • Develop scalable, repeatable processes supporting Magic Quadrant submissions and other analyst evaluations.

    • Coordinate cross-functional content creation, executive reviews, timelines, and knowledge management.

  • Competitive Intelligence

    • Build repeatable processes for gathering, maintaining, and operationalizing competitive intelligence.

    • Translate insights into effective sales enablement, marketing messaging, product positioning, and executive communications.

Operational Excellence & Business Audits

In addition to leading strategic initiatives, this role will act as a trusted advisor to the CMO by evaluating the effectiveness of key marketing functions and recommending improvements.

Areas of focus may include:

  • Marketing planning and budgeting

  • Advertising operations and performance management

  • Sales Development (SDR/BDR) effectiveness

  • Marketing operations

  • Demand generation processes

  • Lead management and funnel performance

  • Organizational workflows and operating models

The Director will identify opportunities to simplify processes, eliminate inefficiencies, improve accountability, and leverage automation and AI to increase organizational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic, cross-functional initiatives on behalf of the CMO that improve marketing effectiveness, customer experience, and business performance.

  • Design, implement, and continuously optimize end-to-end business processes that span multiple functional organizations.

  • Establish clear governance, ownership, operating cadences, success metrics, and accountability for initiatives that currently have fragmented or unclear responsibilities.

  • Bring operational discipline, automation, and AI-first methodologies to strategic initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve speed, quality, scalability, and decision-making.

  • Partner closely with Marketing, Sales, Product, Customer Success, Revenue Operations, and other executive stakeholders to drive alignment and execution.

  • Serve as the program leader for high-priority initiatives from concept through implementation, ensuring measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, marketing operations, revenue operations, product marketing, or related leadership roles.

  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple executive stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes and experience redesigning workflows for improved efficiency and business impact.

  • Experience optimizing customer acquisition journeys, particularly self-service, product-led growth, or free trial experiences.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in enterprise B2B SaaS.

  • Experience working closely with Sales, Product, and Marketing organizations.

  • Background in management consulting or strategic operations.

  • Experience implementing automation, AI workflows, or process optimization initiatives.

  • Familiarity with customer journey analytics, experimentation frameworks, and conversion optimization.

  • What Success Looks Like

Within the first year, the Director of Strategic Marketing Initiatives will have:

  • Established repeatable operating models for several of Marketing's highest-priority cross-functional initiatives.

  • Improved alignment and accountability across Marketing, Sales, Product, and other partner organizations.

  • Accelerated execution through stronger governance, clearer ownership, and AI-enabled workflows.

  • Delivered measurable improvements in customer journey performance, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.

  • Become a trusted advisor to the CMO and a key leader within the Marketing Leadership Team, helping shape how strategic initiatives are executed across the organization.
