About Numeral

Numeral is transforming how taxes get done. Digital businesses are currently bogged down by a painful web of regulations across 47 states and 70+ countries. We’re eliminating this burden so teams can focus on their core mission.

We’re the largest and fastest-growing AI-native tax solution. Started in 2023, Numeral has raised over $57M from Benchmark, Mayfield, Y-Combinator, and many others. We now serve over 3,000 paying customers and have more than tripled our revenue every year in our history.

We’re primarily hiring in our SF and NY offices, but do hire remotely in some cases.

Mission

Running an online business today means wearing a thousand hats, most of them not the reason founders started their company. Our mission is to eliminate the administrative and accounting burdens that distract businesses from doing what they love.

We’ve already helped thousands of businesses avoid the headache of building giant finance teams just to manage tax compliance. Tomorrow, we’re scaling that impact even further: building the automation layer that lets internet businesses stay nimble, compliant, and future-proof.

About the role

Great product and go-to-market decisions start with practitioners who've actually done the work. We're hiring a Director of Strategic Solutions to be Numeral's resident subject matter expert on indirect tax and compliance with focus on partnerships, but operating as a generalist SME across the business. You'll be the connective tissue between Product, Sales, and Partnerships: translating real-world practitioner and customer pain points into product requirements, joining strategic calls to bring technical credibility to conversations with larger enterprises and emerging verticals, and making sure accountants, controllers, and finance teams have input into our roadmap.

This is a strategic, cross-functional role. Partnerships will remain a primary focus given the depth of relationships and market opportunity there, but you'll also support strategic sales motions and product development beyond accounting, helping the business build credibility in new verticals and larger enterprise deals.

What you’ll do

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Numeral's product requirements for the accounting profession, translating real-world compliance workflows and practitioner pain points into clear, actionable requirements, in collaboration with the product team.

  • Act as the conduit between Product and Sales/Partnerships including joining calls and bringing practitioner-level credibility to conversations with larger enterprise prospects and emerging verticals, not just accounting firms.

  • Represent the voice of users and partners in product planning, surfacing real-world indirect tax scenarios, edge cases, and unmet needs from accountants, firms, and enterprise customers more broadly.

  • Drive market development for Numeral's accounting-facing and enterprise solutions — identifying new customer segments, market opportunities, and areas for expansion within and beyond the profession.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Sales, Partnerships, and Marketing to align requirements and tool development with go-to-market execution across the business.

  • Support Sales and Numeral's most strategic partners and enterprise prospects with deep accounting and indirect tax expertise during complex evaluations and strategic conversations.

  • Represent Numeral at industry and accounting community events to gather requirements input from the field and build market presence.

  • Participate in public speaking opportunities.

  • Support the sales team during strategic sales opportunities including large enterprise and new-vertical deals focusing on solution selling.

  • Contribute to multiple strategic initiatives that support the business more broadly.

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years of experience in accounting or indirect tax advisory, ideally including experience defining product requirements or implementing tax solutions

  • A background as a practicing accountant or indirect tax advisor, with firsthand experience navigating sales tax, VAT, GST, or multi-jurisdiction compliance

  • Experience translating practitioner workflows into product requirements or tools at a technology or SaaS company

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate market and practitioner insight into clear, buildable requirements

  • Comfort operating as a strategic, technical resource in sales and partner conversations

  • Excellent communication skills, able to represent complex indirect tax concepts to both practitioners and internal cross-functional teams

  • A strategic mindset paired with the willingness to be hands-on in defining detailed requirements in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment

  • A self-starter mindset and high ownership over ambiguous, evolving initiatives

Even Better

  • Direct experience at an accounting or advisory firm (Big 4, regional, or boutique) specializing in indirect tax.

  • Prior experience as a product manager, business analyst, or requirements lead building tools for accountants or finance professionals.

  • Familiarity with indirect tax regimes across multiple jurisdictions: U.S. sales/use tax, VAT, GST, and beyond.

  • Experience supporting enterprise or strategic sales cycles outside the accounting channel (e.g., in-house tax/finance teams, marketplaces, or other regulated verticals)

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and equity - you'll share directly in the company's success

  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Wellness perks like Headspace and the Peloton One App

  • 401(k) to help you build long-term financial security

  • Lunch and snacks when you're in the office

  • Regular team offsites and company events as we grow

  • A culture built on ownership - your work matters and people will see it!
