The Drafter creates complex design packages for high-voltage substations using 2D and 3D engineering software while coordinating with engineering firms and supporting project management.
As a Drafter, you will be responsible for creating complex and sophisticated high-voltage substation, transmission, and steel design packages. You will coordinate with large engineering firms, using both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) engineering software. You will support internal project management.
Responsibilities:
- Designs in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk AutoCAD to support project sales revenue generated by engineering services.
- Reads and interprets customer drawings and professional engineer (PE) calculations to engineering output.
- Creates detailed engineered drawings for customer approval and fabrication purposes using Autodesk software.
- Creates general arrangement substation layouts in 2D and 3D using steel structures and corresponding major equipment and purchased parts, using either customer-supplied bill of material or developed bill of material.
- Builds 3D standard model library of major equipment and purchased parts for use in general arrangement layouts.
- Develops and utilizes engineering standards as directed by Engineering Manager.
- Reviews customer bill of material against customer drawings for form, fit, function and accuracy.
- Reviews customer drawings and bill of material cut sheets, and properly sizes all mounting hardware and terminal connection hardware.
- Utilizes customer drawings to estimate steel weights for quotes.
- Participates in LEAN training and initiatives, and other continuous improvement teaming events.
- Initiates and assists with creation and development of engineering standards.
- Other assignments as required by management.
Qualifications:
- Associates’ Degree (U.S.)/College Diploma (Canada) required
- Bachelors Degree - Mechanical, civil/structural, or manufacturing engineering technology preferred
- 2 years of experience with Autodesk Inventor, 2012 or newer
- 2 years of experience with Autodesk AutoCAD, 2008 or newer
- 2 years of experience with Structural steel fabrication, industrial parts modeling, industrial construction, high voltage substation/transmission, and/or sheet metal manufacturing background preferred
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D) and Autodesk AutoCAD (2D)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and Microsoft Teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel - intermediate to expert level
- Ability to oversee processes to achieve objectives
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to provide creative solutions to provide excellent service to internal and external customers
- Highly organized, detail oriented, ability to self supervise
- Proficiency in Bim or Revit preferred
- Ability to travel up to 25%
