Position Overview

We are seeking a highly driven and experienced EHS Manager to lead and oversee all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs at our advanced lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Manteno, IL. This role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, minimizing risk, fostering a proactive safety culture, and supporting operational excellence in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment.

The EHS Manager will serve as a strategic business partner to plant leadership, driving continuous improvement in safety performance while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and occupational safety regulations.


Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Program Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and occupational safety regulations.
  • Lead environmental permitting, reporting, and compliance initiatives.
  • Maintain emergency response plans, hazardous materials management, and waste disposal programs.

Risk Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to proactively identify hazards and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Lead root cause investigations for incidents, near misses, and environmental events.
  • Track and analyze safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near-miss reporting, etc.) to drive measurable improvements.
  • Champion a culture of safety ownership and accountability across all levels of the organization.

Training & Culture Development

  • Design and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Ensure onboarding safety training and ongoing compliance certifications are current.
  • Promote employee engagement through safety committees and behavioral-based safety initiatives.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Manage EHS records, documentation, and reporting systems.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory reports.
  • Maintain audit readiness for regulatory inspections and third-party assessments.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and external auditors.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to integrate safety into all business processes.
  • Support corporate sustainability and environmental initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental compliance regulations.
  • Experience in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, energy storage systems (ESS), or high-hazard manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement scalable EHS programs.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and presentation abilities.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) are a plus.

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package at Gotion, and is determined within a range. This provides you with the opportunity to progress as you grow and advance your career at Gotion. The base pay range for this role is shown below, and will depend on your skills, qualifications, experiences, and location.

$100,000$150,000 USD
