Contract eLearning Developer responsible for auditing, redesigning, rebuilding, and developing online courses in Articulate Rise 360. The role includes instructional design, assessment and interaction development, accessibility, LMS and SCORM testing, localization readiness, media integration, standards development, stakeholder collaboration, and managing multiple course timelines. Five-plus years of instructional design experience, recent hands-on Rise 360 expertise, and a portfolio of live builds are required.
CrossFit is looking to contract an eLearning Developer to audit, improve, and rebuild our library of existing online courses. You will evaluate 13 courses, ranging from two to eight credits, and make them more engaging, effective, and current for coaches around the world.
For this project, you will diagnose what works and what doesn’t, design the solution, and build it in Articulate Rise 360. You will also serve as a delivery adviser for new courses, reviewing full content packages and recommending the best way to bring them to life online. You will work closely with the EDU Content team and report to the head of EDU Content.
Key Responsibilities:- Course Audits:
- Take each course from the learner’s perspective and evaluate structure, pacing, engagement, assessment, accessibility, and overall learner experience
- Deliver findings and recommendations document for each course using the provided template, with prioritized, practical recommendations a non-designer can act on
- Flag outdated content, inconsistencies, and gaps against current CrossFit methodology and brand standards for subject-matter review
- Recommend whether each course needs targeted updates or a full rebuild, with an estimate of effort
- Course Updates and Rebuilds:
- Update existing Rise 360 builds or rebuild courses from scratch based on approved recommendations
- Design interactions, knowledge checks, scenarios, and assessments that reinforce learning and connect directly to real coaching practice
- Integrate video, graphics, and other media effectively, and identify new asset needs for the team
- Build courses that meet accessibility standards and perform well on desktop and mobile
- Test published courses in the learning management system to confirm tracking, completion, and credit reporting work as intended
- New Course Design:
- Review full content packages for new courses and recommend the best delivery approach, including structure, sequencing, interactivity, media, and assessment strategy
- Turn subject-matter expert content into clear, engaging online learning, and identify where content needs to be added, cut, or reworked
- Build new courses in Rise 360 as the catalog grows
- Localization Readiness:
- Build courses with translation in mind, keeping text, media, and interactions easy to localize
- Prepare courses for the localization workflow and support the team as translated versions are implemented and reviewed
- Standards and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the EDU Content team to keep courses aligned with CrossFit methodology, voice, and brand standards
- Create or refine reusable templates, build standards, and style guidelines so the course library delivers a consistent look and learner experience
- Incorporate feedback from reviewers and stakeholders through iterative review cycles
- Manage your own timeline across multiple courses, report progress regularly, and flag risks early
- Deep grounding in adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Merrill’s Principles of Instruction, Bloom’s taxonomy)
- Advanced and current, hands-on Articulate Rise 360 skills, including blocks, interactions, quizzes, Storyline blocks, and creative design within Rise’s constraints
- Experience auditing and redesigning existing courses, not only building new ones
- Strong assessment design skills, including scenario-based questions and knowledge checks that measure application, not recall
- Clear, practical written recommendations a non-designer can act on
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards and SCORM publishing to a learning management system
- Self-directed and organized, with a reliable record of meeting deadlines in a remote, part-time contract setting
- Familiarity with fitness, coaching, or certification-based education is a plus; CrossFit Level 1 Certificate a plus
- Experience with Articulate Storyline 360, video editing, or localization workflows is a plus
- Five or more years of instructional design experience
- Minimum three years of hands-on Articulate Rise 360 experience, within the past three years
- Portfolio of live Rise 360 builds required with application
