ETF Trading Support Analyst
Department: Trading
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Chicago, IL
Description
We are seeking an ETF Trading Support Engineer to work directly with our ETF market-making desk and technology teams.
This role focuses on configuring, analyzing, validating, and improving business logic across the trading lifecycle. You will develop a deep understanding of how market and system data translate into trading strategy improvements. You will also gain an appreciation for the operational complexities of running and maintaining production trading strategies. The work is hands-on: we are looking for someone who can build practical tools to enhance team productivity.
The role sits at the intersection of trading support and data analysis and is well suited for someone analytically minded, curious, and eager to grow in a fast-paced environment. Direct market-making experience is not required. Ideal candidates want to move closer to electronic markets and real-time decision-making and may come from finance, data analysis, technology, operations, or another quantitative field.
What You'll Do
Learn and Improve Trading Business Logic• Master the rules, configurations, and controls that drive ETF trading activity.• Support product onboarding, trading eligibility, venue configuration, ETF/reference relationships, and market-data dependencies.• Work with traders and stakeholders to develop strategy enhancements, controls, and workflows.
Analyze Production Trading Behavior• Use market data and order execution data to evaluate strategy behavior and develop execution quality metrics.• Build repeatable analyses to identify configuration issues, data-quality problems, implementation defects, and missed opportunities.
Improve Automation and Controls• Automate data-quality checks, configuration validation, and strategy health monitoring.• Support testing and feature deployments by defining expected outcomes and monitoring production results.• Maintain documentation of strategy rules and configuration dependencies.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications• Experience working with SQL, relational data, or similar tools.• Experience analyzing data and drawing clear conclusions.• Experience with Python or another object-oriented programming language - enough to build lightweight tooling.• Exposure to automation technology such as Airflow or other open-source alternatives.• Strong problem-solving skills - able to break complex problems into logical steps.• Strong attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.• Clear communication with technical and non-technical colleagues.• Willingness to ask questions, learn quickly, and take ownership.• Comfort in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in any of the following is helpful but not required:• Tableau or comparable data visualization tools.• Apache Arrow or comparable in-memory data technologies.• C# or comparable object-oriented programming languages.• Advanced Excel, automated testing, monitoring, or data validation.
What Success Looks Like
A successful candidate will grow into a trusted partner to traders and developers by understanding trading logic, identifying differences between intended and actual behavior, reducing manual processes through automation, and creating tools that support real trading decisions.
Candidates are not expected to be experts in every area on day one. We value solid fundamentals, curiosity, and people who pick things up quickly.
