At Sprout Social, people and culture are at the forefront of everything we do - a fact underscored by our multiple Best Places to Work awards.  As members of the Sprout People team, we are the champions of Sprout’s unique culture. Doing our jobs effectively means every team member has access to the resources they need to be successful from day one, and every business unit has the talent and support needed to meet and exceed their goals. We are looking for a passionate, innovative, and eager learner to help us carry on that tradition.

At Sprout Social, championing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is woven into the fabric of our organization. This value guides how we collaborate, make decisions and engage with the world both inside and outside of our organization. We are proud of the incredible work we’ve done to date and are looking for someone who will continue that work and identify ways for us to innovate and iterate. As the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), you are responsible for leading our global strategy to build a more equitable company, with systems and processes to support an organization diverse in identities and perspectives. The person in this role will be curious, love to learn, and think creatively about how to integrate that learning across all of our business functions. They will be adept at setting vision, creating strategy, working cross functionally, building strong relationships of trust, and influencing people at all levels of the company from our most senior leaders to individual contributors in order to drive systemic impact and change.

Within 1 month, you will…

  • Complete Sprout’s New Hire training program alongside other new Sprout team members. You’ll gain a broader understanding of our product and how your role fits into the organization.
  • Partner with our Chief People Officer to define key success metrics for your role and how you will be measured against them.
  • Conduct initial 1:1s with executive leaders, employees and other strategic partners throughout the company to identify key areas where they need support and determine how you will work together.
  • Familiarize yourself with all aspects of DEI related to our goals to learn, serve, and recruit. We want you to dive in and help us find ways we can optimize and iterate on our processes. Don’t be afraid to give us feedback. We welcome it.
  • Attend DEI Guild, Leadership Team, and BRG Meetings.
  • Understand as much as you can about the culture, products, teams, and projects of Sprout to creatively support our award-winning culture.

Within 3 months, you will…

  • Review past employee survey data and speak to employees across the organization to develop an understanding of employee experience as it pertains to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Conduct monthly alignment and education sessions with our Executive Leadership Team
  • Finalize your recommendations for the key metrics and reporting mechanisms that will be used to measure our success in DEI. You will create a dashboard that Senior Leaders can access to understand the existing state of their team.
  • Meet all DEI Guild Meeting Leaders and become familiar with the planning and execution process for this monthly piece of Sprout culture.
  • Gain an initial understanding of all current DEI initiatives led by the DEI Leadership Team and meet with each initiative's project leader.

Within 6 months, you will…

  • Make recommendations on how to improve the DEI initiatives we currently have in flight and support DEI Leadership Team members to create updated plans for implementation.
  • Understand our existing community work: Community Partnerships, Tech Giving, Global Philanthropy Week, and Sprout Serves Global Volunteer Initiative, so that you can create a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy.
  • Hire a DEI Specialist to increase the sustainability and further integrate DEI across the business.
  • Partner with our Recruitment Director and Team to support our DEI-centric recruiting efforts including but not limited to proactive sourcing especially for BIPOC candidates.
  • Develop the company’s Supplier Diversity Program.
  • Communicate our DEI strategy and associated progress to the organization through a variety of methods such as quarterly written DEI updates or presenting at company meetings.

Within 12 months, and beyond you will…

  • Provide feedback on our DEI strategy in the short and long term based on what you’ve been learning about and assessing since you joined.
  • Be completely at home as a critical member of the People team as well as the company as a whole, with a deep understanding of the team’s needs.
  • Play a key role in our People team annual strategic planning process.
  • Represent Sprout and our DEI strategy both internally and externally, continuously pushing us to consider what equity looks like in our day to day work.
  • Surprise us! Use your unique ideas and abilities to continue to advance our DEI strategy and Sprout in beneficial ways that we haven’t even considered yet.

Of course what is outlined above is the ideal timeline, but things may shift based on business needs and other projects and tasks could be added at the discretion of your manager.

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

The Growth Activation squad is focused on the challenge of retaining trial users and converting them into subscribers. How has your career grown since starting at the company?

When I first joined Sprout, I could count the entire Sales team on one hand. Since then, my career has taken a variety of paths, from training and enablement to assisting our Sales team from a strategic perspective as a Solutions Engineer. Thanks to a workplace environment that fosters growth, I’ve been able to advance my career at Sprout.

Jordan Balkin

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

Instead of turning down ideas that seem unattainable, we encourage our teams to think through how we can solve challenges in unique ways. By testing and experimenting, we create an environment that fosters innovation and promotes creative thinking.

Jamie Gilpin

What's something quirky about your company?

At the conclusion of our company wide Kickoff party, tubs of McDonalds cheeseburgers mysteriously appear and rain down on us like a blizzard in the Chicago winter. But a good blizzard.
