Operations Lead, Talent Management
The Team: The Corporate team unites a variety of functions at Morningstar including design, marketing, finance, quality, talent and culture, corporate communications, legal, compliance, strategic planning, and technology with the goal of keeping our business running smoothly. Each of these functions plays an essential role in supporting our company's infrastructure, day-to-day operations, and ongoing strategic initiatives.

We are looking for a bright, energetic, and driven individual to serve as an Operations Lead focusing on Talent Management. As a member of the Talent & Culture team, you will contribute to a positive experience for our employees, managers, and colleagues. In this role, you will be expected to act with a high degree of autonomy, sitting in the critical intersection between the Talent Management, Operations, and Business Partner functions within the Talent & Culture team. You will lead critical talent management initiatives, processes, and projects to successful execution. This position dual reports into the Operations and Talent Management functions. This position is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
- Operate as integrated member of both operations and the talent management team
- Develop best practices in partnership with Business Partners for program delivery
- Own standard operating procedures in talent management, ensuring all documentation is available and up to date. Work with the talent management team to determine quality procedures and oversee talent management processes
- Serve as a subject matter expert for technology-related implementations of talent management processes with our People Technology team
- Liaise with counterparts in Talent Management and Operations across the globe to ensure consistency of process and employee experience
- Proactively identify process improvements and opportunities to streamline, automate, and transition work to centralized teams
- Serve as an escalation point for questions about talent management, via AskHR Service Desk
- Train and instruct Talent & Culture Operations Specialists and Business Partners on processes and programs related to talent management, including learning and development programs
- Manage projects and initiatives within talent management, such as new employee orientation, new leader orientation and the Morningstar Scholars Program
Competencies
To be successful in this role, the Talent & Culture Operations Lead should have an awareness and basic understanding of the following areas with the ability to apply such skills under general supervision:
- Ability to develop new talent programs and improve and scale existing programs
- Ability to educate, train, and communicate with Talent & Culture counterparts, managers and employees in areas of talent management
- Ability to utilize and leverage core business and HR-specific resources, processes and technologies when solving business challenges
- Ability to problem solve and consult/advise stakeholders on talent management strategies, philosophies and approaches to deliver solutions for organization challenges
- Knowledge of current talent industry best-practices, strategies, technology, and service providers
Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree or its equivalent
- Excellent communication skills, high emotional intelligence, strong analytical skills and curiosity
- Demonstration of a high level of discretion and professionalism relating to sensitive or confidential information
- Proven ability to learn quickly and proactively take responsibility
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience and a proven track record in a service, project management, analytic function or Talent & Culture
- Prior experience with talent management or employee and manager coaching is desired
