Inside Sales Account Manager, San Francisco Bay Area
Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking an Inside Sales Account Manager to support growth across the San Francisco Bay Area, with a preference for candidates based in Silicon Valley.
This role is ideal for a commercially minded life sciences professional who enjoys building relationships, identifying opportunities, and helping customers find the right solutions for their research needs. You will play an important role in growing revenue across an assigned territory by qualifying and converting new opportunities, expanding engagement within existing accounts, and partnering closely with Marketing, Field Sales, Applications, and Channel teams.
Success in this position requires curiosity, strong communication skills, scientific fluency, and the ability to manage multiple opportunities across a fast-moving and highly collaborative commercial environment.
What You’ll Do
- Own and Convert New Opportunities
Manage inbound leads from initial engagement through close. Qualify customer needs, identify appropriate solutions, build compelling business cases, and maintain momentum throughout the sales process. - Grow Existing Accounts
Develop relationships with current customers to increase product utilization, identify new users and applications, and uncover opportunities for upselling and cross-selling across accounts. - Support Customer Education and Engagement
Provide timely product updates, technical information, and relevant resources to both new and existing customers, helping them better understand how Oxford Nanopore technology can support their research. - Execute Targeted Commercial Campaigns
Partner with Marketing and commercial colleagues to execute targeted outreach campaigns, including call and email sequences, webinars, product initiatives, and account-based engagement. - Manage Pipeline and Forecasting
Maintain strong CRM discipline by tracking opportunities, documenting customer activity, managing pipeline progression, and providing accurate forecasts. Capture relevant competitive, market, and commercial intelligence to support broader territory strategy. - Partner with Field Sales
Work closely with field-based Account Executives and other commercial colleagues by conducting account research, preparing for customer meetings, coordinating follow-up, supporting quotes, and helping manage trials and active opportunities. - Build Strong Customer Relationships
Develop trusted relationships with customers across the territory and help create a consistent, positive experience throughout the customer journey, from initial engagement through adoption and ongoing use. Collaborate Across Teams
Work effectively with Marketing, Field Applications Scientists, Technical Support, Channel partners, and other colleagues to coordinate customer engagement and deliver a seamless commercial experience.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in Life Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Commercial or inside sales experience working with research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, clinical research, or other life sciences customers.
- Working knowledge of DNA sequencing technologies and their applications.
- Ability to understand scientific customer needs and translate them into relevant commercial opportunities.
- Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar platforms, with a disciplined approach to pipeline and activity management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across a range of customer types.
- Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, goal-oriented team environment.
- Proactive mindset, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through.
Nice to Have
- PhD or other advanced scientific degree.
- Experience within the NGS, genomics, sequencing, or molecular biology market.
- Experience working within global commercial teams and coordinating with field-based colleagues or channel partners.
- Familiarity with complex, multi-stakeholder sales environments across academia, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, clinical research, or government laboratories.
- Experience supporting commercial campaigns, webinars, account-based marketing, or other targeted customer engagement initiatives.

You will have the opportunity to combine scientific knowledge with commercial development, build relationships across a diverse customer base, and contribute directly to the continued adoption of Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology.
The salary for this role is between $77,000 and $110,000 USD. The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the candidate.
Certain roles within ONT are eligible for annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.
