Our Institutional Sales and Trading group is comprised of over 60 dedicated traders, salespeople, and analysts with an average of more than 20 years of specialized experience across key sectors of the fixed income market. The cornerstone of our work is providing sophisticated market analysis, excellent service and customized investment solutions to institutional investors with enhanced market coverage through national sales and trading locations. We are recognized nationally as one of the nations’ most established and experienced participants in the fixed income markets.

We are actively recruiting for an experienced salesperson for its municipal effort with a proven track record of success combined with well-established industry relationships. We are looking for someone that is ambitious and enthusiastic about implementing new trading ideas, concepts combined with a demonstrated ability to operate within established trading risk parameters. 

We are open to the various office locations: Chicago, New York, Nashville and additional location options are available. 

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with buy-side clients by developing a thorough understanding of their investment objectives, portfolio strategies, risk parameters, and liquidity needs.
  • Develop creative and effective strategies to expand existing relationships, generate new business, and broaden the firm’s client base.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the firm’s new-issue products, including credit, structure, relative value, and market positioning.
  • Coordinate closely with underwriters and traders to solicit orders, develop investor interest, and support pricing and distribution strategies.
  • Effectively market the firm’s fixed-income inventory by identifying appropriate client opportunities and clearly communicating each security’s structure, credit profile, relative value, and investment merits.
  • Relay client inquiries, investment preferences, market color, and trading opportunities to the trading desk and other members of the sales team.
  • Proactively identify customer bond-sale opportunities that may satisfy the needs of the trading desk or other sales professionals.
  • Provide timely and actionable investor feedback to fixed-income traders, underwriters, and public finance professionals.
  • Actively participate in sales meetings and contribute relevant market intelligence, client activity, trade ideas, and business-development opportunities.
  • Consistently generate revenue at or above the goals established by the Sales Manager.
  • Identify and refer appropriate customer and prospect opportunities to other calling officers across the firm, and maintain accurate documentation of those referrals.
  • Represent the firm professionally at client meetings

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of success in municipal fixed-income sales, including consistent revenue generation.
  • Established middle-market institutional client base and relevant relationship management experience.
  • Experience selling taxable municipal securities is required; broader municipal and fixed-income product knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fixed-income markets, trading dynamics, credit analysis, relative value, and new-issue distribution.
  • Proven ability to develop new client relationships and expand revenue opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Active FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 licenses required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients and represent the firm.

In accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Law, the anticipated hiring draw for the role will be between $75,000 and $150,000 per year. However, draw pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, also provides the opportunity for a highly competitive commission structure and Mesirow benefit program.
