Overview of the Role 

  • We’re hiring an IT Specialist Intern to join our small, fast-moving IT team in Schaumburg. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be imaging and deploying devices, helping with patching and asset maintenance, assisting in SharePoint and data administration and building small automation projects that actually save the team and organization time. You’ll get real ownership, clear deliverables, and direct mentorship so you learn practical skills while making a visible impact. 
  • Hybrid; Schaumburg IL in office 3-4 days a week 
  • Internship length: Late May/ Early June to Early/Mid August
  • Pay: $17/hour

What You’ll Do at C.A. Carlin 

  • Image, provision, tag, and deploy laptops; validate drivers and firmware. 
  • Execute patching and post-deployment validation. 
  • Reconcile and maintain the asset inventory. 
  • Support tier-1 provisioning and basic troubleshooting during refreshes. 
  • Build and maintain scripts/workflows to speed imaging, onboarding/offboarding, and patch processes (PowerShell, Python, etc.). 
  • Prototype small automation wins (reduce manual build steps, automate reporting, etc.). 
  • Document processes and create clear runbooks for repeatable tasks. 
  • Complete various tasks assigned by your direct report/Intern Manager. 
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned. 

 

What You Should Bring to the Table 

  • Working toward or recently completed a degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field. 
  • Basic computer and email ability required; willing to accept training 
  • Comfortable following instructions and documenting your work. 
  • Reliable, eager to learn, and able to work well with a small team. 

You Will Stand Out If You Have

  • Basic scripting experience. 
  • Familiarity with Windows imaging and endpoint management (Intune, SCCM, or similar). 
  • Basic hardware troubleshooting and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP). 
  • Experience with version control or exposure to automation/orchestration tools. 
  • SharePoint file management and metadata
