Position Summary: Fulfills the requirement of technical consultant/supervisor per CLIA.  Works with clinical coordinator and clinical team to provide education for medical groups. Develop procedures for testing and ensure all staff competencies are completed for medical groups.  Performs quality control and maintenance records for medical groups. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for performing/teaching quality control and calibration on all instruments ensuring validity and accuracy, establishing lab policies and protocols, educating and training new and existing staff on preparing and processing lab samples using established protocols, quality control standards, POC testing, phlebotomy, safety, environmental and infection control practices, and keeping, maintaining records and reports on results according to state/federal guidelines and established procedures.

  • Provide the highest standard of privacy and confidentiality in matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital by abiding by the Standards of Conduct
  • Fulfill the requirement of Technical Consultant and Technical Supervisor per CLIA
  • Assure regulatory compliance for the medical group laboratories
  • Review and approve test validation for new methods and new reagents prior to implementation
  • Review and approve changes to reference ranges, reporting formats
  • Consult and guide laboratory staff
  • Ensure all laboratory staff are properly trained
  • Evaluate and document the competency of all laboratory section staff annually
  • Ensure the laboratory quality control and quality programs are established, maintained and reviewed
  • Perform monthly review of quality control and maintenance records
  • Ensure the laboratory is enrolled in an approved proficiency testing program or alternate assessment program for each analyte/test performed and the laboratory meets requirements for acceptable performance
  • Ensure proficiency samples are tested as required, signs the attestation statement, performs review of results, initiates corrective action when necessary, alerts the Laboratory Director of problems and failures.  
  • Prepare laboratory policies and procedures and develop standardized practices. Review and sign unrevised or minimally revised policies and procedures bi-annually.
  • Develop current, written procedures that are controlled, approved and available to testing staff
  • Train and annual competency assessments (tracked and documented)
  • Advise on equipment
  • Track CLIA licenses
  • Liaison between regulatory and proficiency testing agencies and Laboratory
  • Evaluate and sign maintenance and quality control logs at least monthly
  • Evaluate and sign proficiency testing
  • Provide guidance on everyday issues such as failed QC
  • Perform Competency assessments                    
  • Participate in professional and educational development activities/programs to keep current with health care trends and practices
  • Facilitate team meetings and education opportunities as appropriate                   
  • Team player, always performs related work as required             

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and systems. 
  • Knowledge of office management techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, EMR, and applications. 
  • Knowledge of research methods and procedures sufficient to compile data and prepare reports. 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including appropriate use of grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information. 
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions. 
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, manage time, and remain organized
  • Computer skills and knowledge of online resources necessary

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist Required 
  • Five years of health care laboratory experience or other related experience

Certificate/License: Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist required.

The final pay rate offered may be more than the posted range based on several factors including but not limited to: licensure, certifications, work experience, education, knowledge, demonstrated abilities, internal equity, market data, and more.

The expected pay for this position is listed below:

$30.70 - $38.38
