The Lead Data Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of Microsoft data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure data platform technologies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data warehousing, data integration, and modeling. This position will also be responsible for mentoring and developing junior data engineers, and for ensuring the quality and compliance of all data solutions.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

Primary Duties:

  • Act as a technical leader in designing and delivering modern data engineering solutions leveraging Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse Analytics, including data pipelines, notebooks, lakehouse architectures, and enterprise data warehousing platforms.

  • Leads cross functional team members and contributes to building modern data warehousing solutions from the ground up including blueprinting, architecture/design, implementation, and hypercare support 

  • Interfaces with all levels of management, customers, and team members to determine requirements  

  • Estimates work effort (resources, timeline, cost) for multiple projects across teams/areas of expertise 

  • Provides guidance and support on data governance, security, and privacy across the cloud environment 

  • Leads and/or assists team members and customers with problem solving related to application performance, usage, and general support activities 

  • Writes system documentation, user manuals, and develops/conducts user training 

  • Accountable for disaster recovery initiatives and change management standards and procedures 

  • Establishes, monitors, and improves service delivery levels including reliability, availability, accuracy, serviceability, and cost 

  • Assists IT Management in the formulation and execution of complex objectives to meet short and long-term company strategic goals  

  • Evaluates 3rd party solutions under general direction; maintains awareness of current technologies and trends; assimilates new technology into company work environment 

  • Continues development of technical and business proficiency through self-directed education, project assignments and interfacing with representatives of vendors and suppliers 

  • Provides 24-hour on call support, including evenings and weekends 

  • Performs duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.

  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience.   

  • 8+ years of proven experience in the design and implementation of data warehouse architecture as well as data delivery, data modeling, ETL tools, master data management and deploying highly automated and documented solutions 

  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Cloud Data Platform Solutions: Microsoft Fabric OneLake, Azure Synapse, DevOps, Data Factory, Pipelines and Notebooks

  • Experience with monitoring and optimization tools (Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Fabric capacity metrics, or equivalent)

  • Strong experience with:

    • Medallion Architecture Modeling

    • Python programming and data processing (dataframes, Spark, etc.)

    • SQL development and performance optimization

  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI a plus  

  • Strong communicative, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills  

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization 

  • Ability to mentor other team members in cloud technologies 

Working Conditions:

100% Remote. Preference will be given to Michigan based candidates.

Salary Minimum

$120,000.00

Salary Maximum

$157,500.00
