About the position
Squarespace and Tock are seeking a versatile Chicago-based counsel to join our Legal team. As a key part of the fast-growing global organization, this person will have the opportunity to work across subject matters on a range of legal and business issues. You will serve as a strategic advisor to Tock, and provide general legal advice and support across Tock’s business functions, as well as working on Squarespace projects
Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a variety of complex commercial contracts (including sales, software, partnership, marketing and related vendor agreements)
- Provide advice on legal issues to all levels of business teams, up to and including senior executives
- Provide creative, flexible and proactive advice on a broad range of compliance areas for multiple jurisdictions, such as consumer law, privacy, product and e-commerce
- Multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet short deadlines
- Identify and evaluate business and legal risks, and find solutions to mitigate those risks
- Help build, administer and improve upon scalable and effective processes and best practices for Tock’s sales workflow (including contract automation, trainings, contract templates and playbooks)
- Provide support on a variety of other legal topics depending on your background and interest
- Work flexibly and creatively to own ad-hoc projects
- Collaborate with, and periodically travel to, our other offices
Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills; previous experience working with a sales function
- Previous in-house experience is a plus
- Self-starter with great judgment, commercial and solution-based outlook with the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Flexibility and creativity in solving problems and dealing with ambiguity
- Strong interest in learning new areas of law and business
- Admitted to and in good standing with at least one state bar
