Lead day-to-day client relationships and translate market access strategy into design-ready manuscripts and payer-focused content. Manage projects, collaborate with creative and production teams, support MLR review (Veeva Vault), and ensure compliance while driving persuasive, audience-tailored materials to improve reimbursement and patient access.
Blue Matter is a strategic consulting firm serving the life sciences industry. With deep expertise in specialty therapeutics, particularly oncology and rare diseases, we help clients achieve commercial success across the lifecycle of their products, portfolios, and organizations. Market access is a core part of that work, helping clients navigate an increasingly complex access landscape. Through SALT Access, our integrated creative agency, we translate market access and commercialization strategies into compelling, effective multichannel marketing, design, and communications, with a focus on value and access messaging. Blue Matter, together with SALT Access, fosters an entrepreneurial culture and is committed to being one of the best places to work.
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Market Access Content & Account Lead to join our growing agency team supporting pharmaceutical and life sciences clients.
This is a role for a driven, self-sufficient communicator who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment. You will own client relationships day to day — listening closely, asking the right questions, and distilling client requests into clear, actionable direction for manuscript development and the creative team. You don’t need to build market access strategy from scratch, but you must “speak strategy” fluently enough to ensure our creative output resonates with key audience segments, including payers, healthcare professionals (HCPs), formulary decision-makers, and organized customers.
This role acts as the critical bridge between the client, market access strategy, and creative execution. You will blend deep fluency in the market access landscape with expert manuscript development, messaging, and content strategy to transform client requests and high-level consulting inputs into persuasive, compliant materials (e.g., value decks, pull-through tools, educational resources, multichannel engagement tactics) that clearly articulate a therapy’s value, simplify the path to reimbursement, and ultimately drive patient access across the healthcare ecosystem.
Because we operate as a lean, high-growth agency, you will be expected to run projects with minimal oversight — bringing established expertise, sound judgment, and the confidence to make calls independently based on solid, demonstrable experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Account & Client Management (primary focus)
- Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact, building trusted relationships and anticipating client needs
- Lead client discussions to gather insights, clarify objectives, and pressure-test requests before work begins
- Distill client requests — often ambiguous or high-level — into precise, actionable briefs and content direction for manuscript development and the creative team
- Manage client expectations proactively around scope, timelines, feedback cycles, and MLR requirements
- Provide “on-the-spot” content recommendations in client meetings, backed by market access expertise
- Identify opportunities to expand and deepen client engagements
- Work closely with designers and production teams to ensure copy and visuals integrate seamlessly for maximum impact
- Work closely with agency project management and traffic team to manage timelines and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects with minimal oversight
- Serve as the “Strategic Guardrail” during the creative process, ensuring that design elements enhance rather than distract from the core access message
- Interpret and apply strategic inputs from clients and consulting teams to develop brand narratives that resonate with payer stakeholders
- Own manuscript development end to end: synthesize, outline, draft, edit, and finalize content manuscripts — complete, referenced, annotated copy documents — that serve as the blueprint for the art team’s design and execution of each deliverable
- Write clear, accurate, and persuasive content for market access audiences, including payers, formulary decision-makers, HCPs, and policy influencers
- Translate complex clinical, health economics, and policy information into concise, engaging messages and narratives tailored to specific audiences
- Lead the drafting and development of core market access materials, including, but not limited to: payer value propositions; reimbursement, billing, medical exceptions, and coverage guides; objection handlers; formulary flashcards; HEOR and RWE data summaries; patient access brochures and educational materials; prior authorization forms and instructions; pull-through toolkits; payer and HCP email campaigns; interactive PDFs; infographics; leave-behinds; sales aid copy; payer- and HCP-focused microsite content; and training slide decks for account teams
- Deliver manuscripts that are “design-ready” — with clear structure, hierarchy, callouts, references, and annotations — so the creative team can execute efficiently and accurately
- Maintain manuscript quality and consistency across concurrent projects, from first draft through MLR submission and final release
- Ensure content aligns with brand tone, compliance guidelines, and legal/regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, OPDP
- Support the medical/legal/regulatory (MLR) review process, incorporating feedback while maintaining clarity and persuasiveness
- 5–8+ Years of Healthcare Communications: Proven, verifiable track record in pharmaceutical or healthcare messaging, with deep roots in Market Access, Payer Marketing, or HEOR communications — this role requires established expertise, not on-the-job learning of the fundamentals
- Client Management Experience: Demonstrated success owning client relationships in an agency or consultancy setting, including translating loosely defined client asks into structured briefs and deliverables
- Entrepreneurial Self-Sufficiency: A self-starter who operates with urgency and minimal direction, comfortable with ambiguity, and accountable for outcomes from kickoff through delivery
- Exceptional Manuscript & Writing Skills: Ability to serve as a “Strategic Storyteller,” with a portfolio demonstrating the ability to turn complex pharmaceutical data into persuasive, clear, and audience-appropriate content — and to structure that content into design-ready manuscripts that art and production teams can execute against
- Data Translation Expertise: Mastery in interpreting clinical data, health economics, and policy shifts, with the ability to translate these “strategic inputs” for non-clinical payer and provider audiences
- U.S. Payer Landscape Literacy: A functional understanding of the U.S. reimbursement ecosystem, including formulary decision-making, PBM dynamics, coding/billing pathways, and value-based messaging
- Creative Collaboration: Experience partnering with art directors, designers, and digital production teams to develop integrated campaigns where copy and visuals work in tandem
- MLR & Technical Proficiency: Deep experience navigating the Medical/Legal/Regulatory (MLR) review process, including working competency within the Veeva Vault platform for submissions and markups
- Regulatory Rigor: Solid working knowledge of industry compliance standards, including fair balance, ISI requirements, referencing standards, and the distinction between promotional and non-promotional materials
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Life Sciences, Marketing, or Journalism; an advanced degree (MPH, MS, MBA, or similar) is highly regarded
- Agency or Consultancy Experience: Prior experience in a fast-paced agency or strategic consultancy, featuring the confidence to lead client discussions and provide “on-the-spot” content recommendations
- Startup Agility: Comfortable operating in a “scrappy,” high-growth, or small-agency environment where adaptability is key, deadlines are often tight, and everyone contributes beyond their job description
- Operational Excellence: Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage the nuances of multiple concurrent projects without losing sight of the strategic “big picture”
Benefits Package
- 401k - generous employer match with immediate vesting and financial planning resources
- Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage options effective day 1 of employment
- Flexible spending account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Company paid insurances including Short- and Long-Term Disability and Life insurance as well as additional voluntary options
- Paid parental leave for all new parents
- Health & Wellness Benefit (e.g., gym memberships; $1000 reimbursement annually)
- Employee Assistance Program
- Generous paid time off including vacation, sick days, floating and company holidays
