The Master Black Belt - Lean role involves leading Lean Six Sigma initiatives, coaching teams, and driving improvements across the organization while aligning projects with strategic goals.
The Master Black Belt - Lean (MBB) is an enterprise-level improvement architect responsible for defining strategy, setting standards, and building capability for the Lean Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement system. This role ensures methodological rigor, alignment to business priorities, and sustained performance through coaching, governance, and strategic influence while delivering high-impact project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve the Lean Six Sigma strategy aligned to Wesco’s enterprise priorities and Lean Operating System.
- Manage an Enterprise portfolio including initiatives and projects intake, impact assessment, implementation easiness and project prioritization.
- Lead and facilitate complex, end‑to‑end DMAIC and PDCA projects—owning execution from problem definition through sustainment—to deliver measurable improvements in performance, cost, quality, delivery, safety, and customer experience.
- Establish standards, methodologies, and governance to ensure consistency and rigor.
- Deliver advanced training and coaching in Lean, statistics, design of experiments (DOE), and systems thinking.
- Build enterprise problem-solving capability and leadership bench strength.
- Review and approve project charters, analyses, solutions, and financial benefit validation.
- Serve as an internal consultant and technical authority for complex improvement efforts.
- Ensure sustainability of improvements through standardization and audit mechanisms.
- Partner with senior leaders to align improvement efforts with strategic goals.
- Advise leadership on performance trends, opportunities, and systemic gaps.
- Execute Value Stream Analysis and Mapping to identify waste, identify opportunities and drive Lean and Six Sigma project pipeline development for the Lean team.
- Coach / Mentor MBB, BB and GB projects to rapid completion with value impacts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required - Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Analytics, or other technical discipline required; Master's Degree preferred
- Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (ASQ, IASSC, CSSC, or equivalent) required
- PMP, Agile certifications preferred
- 10 years of extensive Lean or Lean Six Sigma experience in medium or large company
- 5 years leading or managing large-scale strategic initiatives
- Extensive experience as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt delivering enterprise level business impact and leading multiple complex improvement projects using DMAIC and PDCA
- Ability to mentor practitioners and influence at an enterprise level
- Deep expertise in Lean Six Sigma tools, advanced statistics, and financial validation
- Expertise in Value Stream Analysis
- Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving capability
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, or other technically complex environments
- Strong change agent capabilities
- Strong facilitating skills – able to conduct DMAIC / PDCA workshop
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Working knowledge of SigmaXL and or Minitab
- Experience presenting project results to senior leadership
- Proven experience advising senior leaders on enterprise level strategy, performance, and transformation
- Experience operating across multiple functions, regions, or business units
- Ability to teach Lean and Six Sigma tools and processes to Wesco standards
- International experience preferred
- Ability to travel 25% - 50%, including international if required by the business
