Job Summary:
Responsible for the operational management and team leadership of the Property Catastrophe Claim organization. Leads and directs a team of Claim Professionals and a Catastrophe Claim Consultant and is accountable for delivering superior catastrophe response capabilities and business results in our key pillars of People, Effectiveness, Efficiency and Customer / Distribution Partner. Responsible for Property and Marine resource and capacity planning / decision-making, around-the-clock catastrophe event monitoring, event impact assessment, claim response planning / execution, CAT reporting / communication and TPA oversight. Delivers timely and high-quality CAT event communications and reporting for internal business partners and executive leaders. Facilitates pre and post CAT event meetings with multiple functional areas in/outside of Claim and executive leaders to drive exceptional CAT response planning and execution. Participates in the development and effective execution of strategic priorities and initiatives and provides oversight and operational / leadership back-up support of the line of business leader. Serves as a subject matter expert for the Catastrophe Claim Specialists, accountable for delivering quality direction and oversight with a solid track record of exceeding expectations in commercial property claim handling and claim leadership roles. Must be willing and able to support extended hours of operation including evenings, weekends and holidays as warranted by business conditions and mobilize to areas of the country impacted by catastrophic events as needed.
Location
The preferred/primary location for the Claim Director role is Littleton, CO, Lisle, IL or Wyomissing PA. However,candidates outside that area with the optimal blend of technical and leadership experience will also be considered.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Leads and directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic policies and direction.
Contributes to organizational profitability by ensuring that claims are effectively managed in accordance with external regulatory and internal company guidelines and standards.
Partners with management on the implementation of Property CAT business strategies and continuous improvement objectives by regularly evaluating performance against goals, and holding self and others accountable for achieving and improving team results and CAT response capabilities.
Collaborates with internal and/or external business partners to ensure optimal CAT response planning and execution. Collaborates with business partners on implementation of business strategies; regularly communicating with management and key stakeholders regarding progress and status updates on applicable CAT events, claim files, claim trends and legal changes that may impact total claim outcomes and other relevant business results.
Manages loss costs and claim expenses by effective utilization of resources within established budget, and achieves productivity and efficiency standards by leveraging systems capabilities, data and metrics to analyze trends and improve organizational and process performance. Seeks opportunities to leverage internal CNA Property Claim resource capacity and manage / control ULAE and ALAE associated with vendors.
Participates with senior leadership in the development and implementation of claim policies, business strategies and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals; and holding self and team accountable for achieving desired results.
Oversees coverage determinations and appropriate use of the referral process of the operation and/or line of business by assisting in coverage strategies, identifying learning opportunities and working with Claim Learning to design and deliver developmental curriculum.
Provides ongoing leadership and back up support to LoB Leader on operational management, projects and meetings, as needed.
Provides coaching and mentoring to claim professionals by providing insights and guidance on complex claim situations within the CAT team and overall Property Field and CAT operation.
Remains current and shares knowledge regarding state/territory regulations and issues, industry activity and trends. Continually explores advancements in process, technology and operating models to enhance CAT response capabilities and execution. May represent company in industry trade groups.

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred or equivalent experience.
