Chief U.S. Market Strategist
The Group: Morningstar’s Research group provides independent analysis on individual securities, funds, markets, and portfolios. The Research group also provides data on hundreds of thousands of investment offerings, including stocks, mutual funds, and similar vehicles, along with real-time global market data on millions of equities, indexes, futures, options, commodities, and precious metals, in addition to foreign exchange and Treasury markets. Morningstar is one of the largest independent sources of fund, equity, and credit data and research in the world, and our advocacy for investors’ interests is the foundation of our company.
The Role: The Chief U.S. Market Strategist will serve as the public spokesperson for Morningstar’s views on the U.S. equity market and U.S. economy. He or she will publish research that explains and opines on market and economic developments in the context of the long-term, fundamentals-focused vantage point that differentiates Morningstar's approach to investing. Research will be disseminated across Morningstar's platforms to reach a broad audience advisor, retail, and institutional clients. The Strategist will also be responsible for articulating Morningstar's views on the market and economy via conferences, television appearances, Morningstar-produced videos, and other media forms. The role involves significant collaboration with Morningstar's equity analysts in the U.S. and, potentially, strategist counterparts in other regions. To facilitate information flow and research coordination, the Chief U.S. Market Strategist will chair a small committee of equity analysts drawn from various sectors. This role reports to the Director of Equity Research, North America.
Responsibilities:
- Produce differentiated market and economic research that incorporates aggregated insights from Morningstar’s analyst teams where appropriate
- Explain and opine on short, medium, and long-term investing trends, valuations, and economic fundamentals in a way that is accessible to a diverse audience, including individual investors and advisors
- Represent Morningstar’s research philosophy, methodology, and recommendations in media appearances and in Morningstar-produced videos and other multimedia
- Seek out speaking appearances and present at industry events and conferences
- Advance Morningstar’s brand and reputation for investor-centric research
Requirements:
- Significant experience in the investment industry and passionate about markets
- Keen awareness of how human behavior impacts investing decisions and a passion for helping investors achieve better outcomes
- Extensive media and public speaking experience with demonstrated tact
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Curious, creative thinker with a collaborative approach to producing commentary and research
- A passion for investing and embrace of Morningstar’s core investing philosophies
- A self starter who will seek out opportunities to showcase Morningstar’s industry insights
- Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree, CPA, CFP, and/or CFA preferred
