Job Description
The Principal Compliance Third Party Specialist is responsible for supporting the overall third party risk management framework at Discover Financial Services by ensuring third parties are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and mitigating legal and regulatory risks relative to third party relationships. The Principal Compliance Third Party Specialist will provide support in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Compliance Vendor Management framework and assist with driving strategic initiatives. The Principal Compliance Third Party Specialist will also complete compliance due diligence assessments for third party service providers to evaluate the adequacy of the third party’s business policies, procedures, training, and reference materials and identifying potential compliance risks.
Responsibilities
- Assists with developing, maturing, maintaining and executing the Compliance Vendor Management program framework.
- Acts as subject matter expert, applying knowledge of complex federal, state, and local legal requirements applicable to third party engagements in order to conduct an effective compliance risk assessment.
- Coordinates and communicates due diligence requests with contacts within the DFS business units and third-party service providers.
- Leads due diligence activities and evaluates due diligence materials related to a third-party service provider’s compliance management system and their ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations; this typically includes assessments on third party programs such as: internal audit, change management, vendor oversight, training and complaints management.
- Consults with Legal and Compliance to ensure appropriate legal requirements are linked to vendor engagements, with the ability to provide effective challenge, as needed.
- Develops reports to communicate overall status of vendor engagement due diligence and third-party compliance issues to management, and escalate where needed.
- Partner with Third Party Risk Management to ensure the business is adhering to standards with respect to oversight of third parties.
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Security and Intelligence, Law, Information Technology, Analytics, Finance or related field
- 6+ years of experience in Compliance, law, risk management experience, or related
- In lieu of a degree, 10+ years in Compliance, law, risk management experience, or related
Preferred Qualifications

- JD, CISA, CIPP, CRMP, PMP, RIMS or similar preferred
- Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager
