Purpose: Keller Postman seeks a Paralegal I to support its practice of representing a broad array of clients as plaintiffs in complex litigation at the trial and appellate levels. The Paralegal I will be responsible for performing a variety of complex tasks in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Tasks and projects must be executed with a high level of attention to detail.   

Paralegals may be based on our D.C. office and work a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office, one day per week remote. Compensation for the position includes an hourly base salary of $35 to $40 per hour, depending on experience, plus a year-end, performance-based discretionary bonus and benefits.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide administrative and litigation support throughout various phases of cases, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
  • Assist attorneys with the preparation, formatting, filing, and organization of legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and exhibits using Microsoft Word, CM/ECF, and other systems.
  • Conduct basic factual and legal research using Westlaw and other resources for attorney review.
  • Assist with cite-checking legal documents for Bluebook compliance, Shepardizing authorities, and verifying quoted material and cited exhibits.
  • Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, correspondence, and related materials in both hard copy and electronic case-management systems.
  • Maintain case calendars, deadlines, and document tracking using firm software and organizational systems.
  • Communicate professionally with courts, outside counsel, clients, experts, and vendors as directed.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and internal departments to support efficient workflow and case management processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple assignments.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Basic understanding of federal and state court rules and procedures, or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools and document management systems preferred.
  • Ability to travel for up to one month at a time.

Education/Experience:  

  • A minimum of 3 years related experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Westlaw preferred.
  • Experience using the federal courts’ CM/ECF system, PACER, and Bluebook is a plus.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.   

Certificates/Licenses Required:  

  • An ABA-approved Paralegal certificate is preferred.   

Language Ability:  

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English  

Physical Demands:

  • This job requires remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
