Description
The Avery Coonley School is seeking a Payroll Assistant for administrative support to the Business Office, with a primary focus on payroll processing and related recordkeeping. The Payroll Assistant helps ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintains employee data, and supports compliance with applicable policies and regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines in a collaborative school environment.
Responsibilities
· Assist with preparation and processing of semi-monthly and monthly payroll.
· Review timesheets and payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
· Enter and update employee information in the payroll system including maintaining accurate employee payroll records, pay rates, deductions, and direct deposit information.
· Support reporting of paid time off, leave balances, and employee deductions.
· Assist with onboarding-related payroll documentation, including tax forms and direct deposit setup.
· Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
· Help prepare payroll-related reports and documentation for audits and internal review.
· Collaborate with the Business Office on related administrative tasks.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the Human Resources and Business Office functions.
Requirements
· High school diploma required, associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Prior payroll, accounting, or administrative experience required.
· Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity or similar) is a plus.
· Experience creating payroll journal entries, specifically in Quick Books, a plus.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
· Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet recurring deadlines.
