Your role at Clorox:

As the Plant Engineering Manager of our Hidden Valley Ranch plant, you will lead Engineering activities supporting safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. You will manage technical resources, capital investments and budgets, and provide engineering leadership across facility infrastructure, equipment, maintenance, technical documentation, and site projects.
As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Plant Engineering Manager partners closely with Operations and other site functions to support business results, improve manufacturing performance, develop technical capabilities, and plan for the plant’s long-term needs.
This is an onsite role at our Hidden Valley Ranch plant located in Wheeling, IL.

In this role, you will:

Provide Technical & Facility Leadership

  • Ensure Engineering and technical resources are focused on plant priorities, including productivity, cost reduction, environmental compliance, safety, and new product initiatives.
  • Establish and communicate technical work priorities across the plant organization.
  • Oversee plant facility management, including security, safety, maintenance, utility systems, and permits.
  • Maintain a 3–5 year Facility Improvement Plan aligned with plant priorities and future needs.
  • Manage the plant Master Site Plan, ensuring alignment with capital projects, space utilization, and future expansions.
  • Lead the plant construction and contractor safety program, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support Plant Operations and site safety programs and performance metrics.
  • Serve as a member of the Plant Leadership Team under the guidance of the Plant Manager.

Lead Engineering & Technical Execution

  • Review engineering and technical work to ensure alignment with engineering standards and safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination between plant Engineering, site leadership, and broader technical teams.
  • Drive equipment standardization and the adoption of engineering best practices, ensuring appropriate review and alignment for modifications.
  • Keep equipment manufacturers informed of significant equipment and technology selections.
  • Own the plant’s technical documentation and ensure it is maintained and updated according to company standards.
  • Develop and implement a plan for regular technical documentation updates.
  • Lead early-stage equipment and project management practices that support successful implementation, plant engagement, and sustained results.

Manage Capital & Projects

  • Follow established capital project management practices, including procurement, cost and schedule control, scope management, and appropriate project approval processes.
  • Maintain accountability for capital spending at the site and ensure appropriate systems are in place for monitoring and control.
  • Prepare and conduct internal plant reviews and manage the plant’s annual and three-year capital programs.
  • Maintain current project spending plans, cash flow forecasts, and related one-time expense estimates.
  • Review capital project requests to ensure clear descriptions, appropriate business justification, and alignment with plant priorities.
  • Review and communicate external requests related to new products, reformulations, new packaging, and other business changes that may impact the plant.
  • Monitor project execution, communicate significant deviations, and ensure appropriate tracking of qualifying costs and activities for capitalization and applicable credits.

 

Lead & Develop Engineering Teams

  • Mentor and coach plant Engineering personnel, including employees who may not directly report to this role.
  • Manage performance for direct reports through goal setting, development planning, career discussions, and regular performance feedback.
  • Support career development and capability building across the plant Engineering organization.
  • Lead capability assessments and development activities as needed.
  • Participate in hiring, promotion, staffing, and responsibility decisions for plant Engineering personnel.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience in plant-based engineering roles.
  • 2+ years of experience leading Engineering teams in a manufacturing plant setting.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to rotating equipment, elevated work areas, temperature variations, and other industrial operating conditions.
  • Solid experience in engineering capital projects management.
  • Experience with structured manufacturing improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to influence and accomplish work through others.
  • Ability to develop technical solutions across multiple engineering and business functions.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities, while also allowing for differentiation based on performance. Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at Clorox in the first half of the applicable range. Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

–Zone A: $109,400 - $210,000

–Zone B: $100,300 - $192,500

–Zone C: $91,200 - $175,000

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox’s incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
