JOB DESCRIPTION:
Director level individual contributor responsible for guiding Portfolios and teams to implement Agile principles and practices. The position supports product teams or larger programs, where the Scaled Agile Framework may work best.
This position focuses on agile transformation coaching which includes training, mentoring, facilitating, and coaching all areas in a Portfolio. This position coaches product, ART, and Portfolio leadership into creating a product roadmaps with business epics and Enabler Epics to drive value first delivery methods in the Portfolio, ART, and product team. This position is also responsible for supporting with the company's agility journey, acting as a servant leader role model, and supporting Community of Practices through a companywide agile transformation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
• Guides and coach the teams in a program or Agile Release Train on Agile practices and develop their understanding of SAFe, Agile, and Lean principles.
• Facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution across teams, stakeholders, leadership, external teams, business partners, and other Agile Release Trains/programs.
• Partners with program or ART business owners and other partners to influence and guide business and technology leaders on behavioral changes that enable Agility.
• Works with product teams to analyze current systems and processes and design a strategy for the adoption of Agile best practices.
• Guides teams to help them stay on track with latest Agile techniques and help fine-tune best practices as needed to ensure the overall agility capabilities is being met within the portfolio.
• Leads agile workshops for both development and business functional teams, as well as key stakeholders.
• Promotes and advocate a culture of continuous improvement, helping leaders in setting portfolio goals and PI objectives & being able to measure them.
• Drives cultural change by championing an Agile mindset and coaching the organization to be at the forefront of industry best practices.
• Drives and builds a scaled agile process at the portfolio & ART level for highly regulated organization that delivers both products and services.
• Works with the team and program business owners to guide details and focus on building a high level of quality while embracing the big picture.
• Provides guidance on building team and Portfolio-level Agile processes, artifacts and metrics including Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) techniques and ceremonies.
• Facilitates program leadership sessions with an eye on impediments, process and related best practices. Provides guidance for the development of a sustainable Agile Framework.
Reporting Relationship
Typically AVP or above
Key Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
• Expert knowledge in Agile frameworks; Scrum, Kanban, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
• Change management methods (human, culture, and organizational)
• Lean principles and practices (particularly Theory of constraints, Systems Thinking)
• Conflict Management In-depth understanding of how the organization works as a system
• Proven ability to develop and optimize agile frameworks using Lean and Agile principles.
Education & Experience
Must Have:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or equivalent work experience. SAFe certification (SPC 6.0+)
• At least five years as an Agile Coach or 10 years as a Senior Scrum Master/RTE
• Experience with insurance or finance based products
• Experience with 1 or more agile scaling tools (Jira Align, PlanView, etc.)
• Successful track record with Agile and SAFe methodologies
Preferred:
• Scrum Coach, Scrum Master or Product Owner certification
• Experience coaching at large organizations preferred
• Agile Tool experience; particularly Jira, Jira Confluence, MS Teams, and Lucid Spark
