Piq Energy is looking for a talented transmission planning engineer with coding experience to expand our US team! You will design, build, test, and iterate on our core autonomous grid planning product. In addition, you will be managing grid data and models, support our power system analytics team and our users!
Note: candidates that do not meet the minimum requirements may still be considered for a more junior role.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
- At least 5 years of industry experience in roles at a utility, system operator, engineering consultancy or similar.
- High interconnection fluency (cluster processes, study phases, upgrades/costs, queue dynamics)
- Good understanding of technical standards and regulations related to electricity grid planning, development, operation, and interconnection.
- Hands-on experience with commercial power system analysis tools for steady-state and dynamic studies and plant model building (e.g., PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld).
- Proven ability to manage and maintain detailed electricity network models.
- Working knowledge in Python, particularly for automating grid studies, performing data analysis, and generating reports.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a strong customer-focused mindset.
Bonus
- Experience with open source power system simulation software (e.g. PowSyBl, pandapower, PyPSA).
- Experience with advanced analysis techniques, such as stability, EMT, or real-time simulations
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), modern software development tools and frameworks, containerization (e.g., Docker), and cloud computing platforms.
- Working knowledge of the CIM (Common Information Model) standard for power systems.
The base pay range for this role is $180,000 – $200,000 per year.
