1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but most providers don't accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway’s mission is to fix this by building a new mental healthcare system everyone can access. We started by solving the biggest barrier to care: insurance. The admin work - credentialing, claims, payment reconciliation - is a nightmare. We've automated that.
But we're going further. Over 90,000 providers across all 50 states run their practice on our software, serving over 2.6 million patients. We are building the best tools for therapists to run their entire practice, reimagining the experience of finding a therapist, and investing in the platform foundations to enable this at scale, and building much of it with AI. We aren't just a billing layer; we are becoming the platform where care actually happens.
We're a Series D company with $325M+ in funding (a16z, Accel, Spark Capital, etc.), looking for exceptional people to help us achieve this mission. We want your time here to be the most meaningful experience of your career. Join us, and help change mental healthcare for the better.
About The Role
Headway is scaling our Care Partnerships across the US and we’re hiring a Principal, Commercial Strategy to work closely with the GM of Care Partnerships to scope and execute on the strategic initiatives that will 10x the function.
You’ll work cross functionally with internal teams (Strategy, Product, Operations) and with Headway and Care Partnerships leadership to define the future of integrated care, and how Headway supports health systems and primary care groups. This role will be responsible not just for supporting with strategy, but also with the nuts and bolts of execution of those strategies.
You will:
Partner directly with the General Manager of Care Partnerships to identify, scope, and prioritize the strategic initiatives that will drive step-change growth in 2027 and beyond. You’ll define clear success criteria, build the business case, and shape the roadmap for each.
Own end-to-end execution of high-priority strategic initiatives, such as new partnership models, joint ventures, and care navigation programs. You’ll translate ambitious goals into concrete plans, milestones, and accountable owners.
Serve as the program management engine for Care Partnerships: run operating cadences, track progress against plan, surface risks early, and keep cross-functional partners aligned and on top of their commitments.
Collaborate with internal teams across Strategy, Product, Operations, and Finance to turn partner and market insights into recommendations that shape product and operations strategy.
Use data to generate insights, size opportunities, and pinpoint where Care Partnerships should invest next, building the analytical foundation for a function scaling toward 10x growth.
Bring strategic capacity and operational rigor to a fast-growing, primarily sales- and partnerships-oriented team, so leaders can stay focused on driving the core business while new initiatives move forward.
You will love this role if:
You have 10+ years of experience in healthcare, ideally across strategy, operations, and/or sales roles. Backgrounds in management consulting paired with hands-on operating experience, or in high-growth healthcare startups, are especially relevant.
You bring deep exposure to health system and provider group business models and economics, and you understand how integrated care, value-based arrangements, and partnership structures create value for all sides.
You’re as strong at execution as you are at strategy. You’ve taken initiatives from whiteboard to launch and know how to drive programs forward through ambiguity, competing priorities, and cross-functional complexity.
You thrive in ambiguity and seek out unfamiliar challenges. You’re energized by defining a problem, choosing the better, faster, fewer path, and persistently driving past obstacles toward outcomes.
You’re operationally excellent and can manage multiple high-impact initiatives at once without losing sight of the details or the bigger picture.
You build credibility quickly with stakeholders at every level, from frontline sales teams to executive leadership, and you’re skilled at creating accountability across teams you don’t directly manage.
You want an environment that fosters individual growth through open feedback, high autonomy, and direct exposure to senior leadership.
You’re motivated by the opportunity to take on one of our generation’s defining problems: access to mental healthcare.
We believe a team's strength is in its people, and we cannot achieve this mission without a team that reflects the diversity of this problem – across race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, national origin, religion, family status, disability, military status, and experience.
