Northern Trust is proud to provide innovative financial services and guidance to the world’s most successful individuals, families, and institutions by remaining true to our enduring principles of service, expertise, and integrity. With more than 130 years of financial experience and over 22,000 partners, we serve the world’s most sophisticated clients using leading technology and exceptional service.

The Principal Technology Program Manager plays a critical role in driving successful delivery across complex, multi‑workstream technology initiatives within the cybersecurity organization. In this role, a strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, operating models, and regulatory expectations enhances the TPM’s ability to support accurate planning, financial coordination, and program execution. The Principal TPM ensures disciplined delivery through robust governance, structured planning, and clear communication, while providing essential financial insight to improve forecasting accuracy, identify cost‑related risks, and maintain transparency across cyber programs. Partnering closely with Program Sponsors, Business Leads, Technology Finance, Procurement, Vendor Management, and cross‑functional cybersecurity teams, this role transforms financial and delivery data into actionable insights that enable better decision‑making and strengthen the effectiveness of cybersecurity investments and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and report program actuals vs. forecast, surfacing financial variances to Program Business Leads and Program Sponsors.
  • Work with Workstream Leads to update forecasts, identify cost impacts from scope or schedule changes, surface related financial risks or assumptions, and support development of variance mitigation actions.
  • Maintain and update required financial documentation, such as the Program Spend Summary Report, ensuring accuracy and alignment to governance expectations.
  • Support Program Sponsors and Business Leads in preparing annual plans, mid‑year reforecasts, and capital updates by providing structured data and financial insights, ensuring alignment with corporate and technology financial requirements.
  • Partner with Technology Finance, Procurement, and Vendor Management when program activities affect spending, resource utilization, or contract considerations.
  • Deliver executive‑ready program reporting, including status, milestones, risks, issues, dependencies, and financial summaries.
  • Consolidate financial inputs across all workstreams into program‑level dashboards to support leadership visibility and decision‑making.
  • Acts as a resource for direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff.

Professional Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in program management, finance or accounting, or large-scale technology delivery roles
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with leadership across multiple business units at once
  • Demonstrated ability to support financial forecasting, conduct variance analysis, and develop executive ready reports
  • Experience working with structured governance frameworks

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in the financial services sector; experience within a large financial institution strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working within an information security or technology environment preferred
  • Leadership or managerial experience

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret and communicate financial and delivery data.
  • Excellent communication and executive‑level presentation capability.
  • Highly organized, detail‑focused, and collaborative.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, complex stakeholder environments, and competing priorities.
