About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Product Manager, Client Platforms for Yahoo Mail, to lead the product strategy and execution for Yahoo Mail’s client platforms and shared technology integrations. This role owns the horizontal capabilities that power Yahoo Mail experiences across all platforms, including authentication, identity, privacy, security, and foundational client frameworks.
This is a senior, highly cross-functional role that works deeply with application engineering teams, experience-focused product managers, and central platform and infrastructure teams. You will be responsible for ensuring that Yahoo Mail clients remain secure, compliant, scalable, and adaptable as the product ecosystem evolves.
A critical dimension of this role is guiding Yahoo Mail through large-scale platform transitions and service realignments, ensuring continuity for users and partners while enabling independent execution across multiple organizations. This work requires strong systems thinking, excellent stakeholder management, and comfort operating in complex commercial and technical environments.
What You’ll Do
Own the product vision and roadmap for Yahoo Mail’s client platforms and shared services across web, iOS, Android, and emerging surfaces.
Define and shape the strategic roadmaps for Yahoo Mail client platforms, including decisions around codebases, architectural patterns, and technology investments that enable long-term scalability and maintainability.
Partner closely with application engineering teams to ensure client platforms are built and operated in a cost-efficient manner, balancing performance, developer velocity, and operational complexity.
Drive adoption of modern technologies and platform capabilities to deliver fast, reliable, and secure user experiences across all clients.
Lead cross-platform initiatives spanning authentication, identity, privacy, security, and compliance, in close collaboration with central platform teams.
Act as the connective tissue between client engineering, experience-focused product managers, and backend platform teams, ensuring cohesive end-to-end execution.
Drive platform consistency while enabling differentiated experiences across clients where appropriate.
Lead complex platform transitions, service separations, and long-running partner support programs that require coordination across multiple teams, organizations, and external stakeholders.
Ensure client platforms are resilient to organizational change, capable of operating independently where required, and aligned with long-term commercial, legal, and regulatory constraints.
Represent Yahoo Mail in executive-level discussions related to platform strategy, technical risk, timelines, and tradeoffs.
Define and track success metrics across performance, security posture, reliability, cost efficiency, and developer productivity, using data to guide prioritization and investment decisions.
What We’re Looking For
Experience: 10+ years of product management experience, with significant ownership of platforms, infrastructure-adjacent products, or large-scale client systems. Experience building and operating consumer applications at scale is strongly preferred. Direct experience with email platforms or messaging systems is a strong plus, given the unique technical, operational, and trust challenges of email.
Application Platform Leadership: Proven ability to define and evolve shared capabilities used by many teams, balancing consistency with flexibility while keeping end users and business customers connected through reliable, scalable platforms.
Technical Depth: Strong technical fluency across client architectures, authentication and identity systems, privacy and security controls, and platform integrations. Familiarity with the complexity and constraints of email ecosystems (deliverability, trust, abuse prevention, identity, and standards) is highly valued.
Complex Program Ownership: Demonstrated success leading ambiguous, multi-year initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, external dependencies, and contractual considerations, while maintaining operational stability and user trust.
Stakeholder Management: Exceptional ability to align engineering, legal, privacy, security, commercial, and executive stakeholders around a common plan, particularly in environments where platforms serve both consumers and enterprise partners.
Product Judgment: Strong instincts for risk management, sequencing, and tradeoffs in high-impact, high-visibility environments, with a focus on protecting user trust and long-term platform health.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical, organizational, and platform concepts to senior audiences.
Mission & Product Mindset: A genuine interest in building products that empower people in their day-to-day lives, with an appreciation for email as a vital, enduring communications tool that continues to have real-world impact at a global scale
