Position Summary
Inaccurate provider directory data is one of the most persistent and costly problems in U.S. healthcare. Members cannot reliably tell which clinicians are in network and accepting new patients, health plans carry real regulatory exposure under the No Surprises Act and CMS directory accuracy requirements, and providers are asked to verify the same information for dozens of payers. DataSpring sits at the center of that problem. Provider Directory is one of our highest-growth product lines, and we are investing to take it from a data asset to the market-leading directory solution for health plans.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Product Manager to own the success and evolution of DataSpring's Provider Directory product and domain. It pairs deep expertise in provider directory data and health plan directory operations with accountability for domain outcomes — from market and customer need through strategy, solution, funded delivery, commercialization, adoption, and performance. Provider Directory is the primary focus of this role, with secondary accountability for how Directory extends the broader Provider Data portfolio and our Universal Provider Data asset. This role will identify and evaluate new market and adjacent opportunities, ensure product strategy is aligned with industry mandates and regulatory considerations, and partner closely with UX, Technology, Data Science, and delivery teams to shape ideation, roadmap formation, and solution design, then steer delivery against committed outcomes — going deep into execution detail when a release, dependency, or escalation calls for it.

The Principal Product Manager owns the roadmap, the commercial model, and the KPIs that measure adoption, revenue, margin, and directory data quality. This is a multi-team influence role, setting direction across Technology, UX, Marketing, Sales, and Account Management and leading matrixed and contracted resources without direct reporting authority. The role engages health plan executives and buyers, provider organizations, and industry stakeholders, bringing fluency in buyer needs, procurement cycles, and directory operations, including network management, data intake, maintenance, outreach, and data verification, to improve how provider information is collected, governed, validated, and used across the healthcare ecosystem.

The Principal Product Manager is a full-time, remote, exempt position and reports to the Senior Director, Product Strategy and Management – Provider Data.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Own the success and evolution of the Provider Directory product and domain end to end, including growth of the existing Directory offering with health plans and its connection to the Universal Provider Data.
  • Identify and prioritize new market opportunities through customer discovery, competitive analysis, and business cases to guide investment decisions. Translate market needs, user personas, workflows, and data use cases into solution concepts, roadmap priorities, and product requirements.
  • Ensure strategy and roadmap reflect industry mandates, data governance expectations, directory accuracy and data quality standards, and interoperability requirements.
  • Validate concepts with advisory groups, customers, and industry stakeholders, including proofs of concept that inform commercialization and roadmap decisions.
  • Own the full product lifecycle for Provider Directory — strategy, concept, build, launch, growth, maturity, and retirement — setting the roadmap and funding case, and holding delivery teams to committed scope, timing, and outcomes while managing day-to-day execution when required. Serve as a subject‑matter expert and external advocate for Provider Directory, articulating strategic value to drive adoption and industry engagement.
  • Secure funding and resourcing for the roadmap through annual planning, weighing priorities against business objectives and customer need, and confirm work is ready for delivery teams.
  • Partner with Technology and UX to translate the business case into solution direction and requirements, and stay close enough to delivery to arbitrate tradeoffs and unblock decisions, working in the detail when a release demands it.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape and run market sizing and buyer analysis to identify differentiation and inform roadmap and go-to-market priorities.
  • Own packaging, and value proposition for Provider Directory offerings, with the business cases and ROI models behind them, to drive revenue growth, margin, and market expansion with health plans.
  • Influence go-to-market and commercialization for Provider Directory with Marketing, Sales, and Account Management — supporting positioning, value narratives, sales enablement, and reference use cases — and lead launch readiness across pilots, proofs of concept, and general availability.
  • Define, monitor, and report the KPIs tied to business cases and the annual plan, — adoption, revenue, margin, and directory data quality — and use them to guide ongoing investment.
  • Champion provider data accuracy, validation, and directory maintenance capabilities — source-of-truth reconciliation, continuous data quality monitoring, practitioner and primary source validation — as core differentiators of DataSpring's Directory solutions.

Skills

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to lead market analysis, customer discovery, and competitive intelligence and translate complex market, business, and healthcare data insights into clear product strategy and investment recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing provider directory data at scale, including data quality management; source-of-truth reconciliation across multiple contributing systems; provider verification of accuracy and primary source validation workflows; and identification, measurement, and remediation of directory data defects.
  • Expertise in developing compelling business cases, including financial modeling, ROI analysis, and growth potential assessment, to support prioritization and funding decisions.
  • Ability to define user personas, data use cases, and end-to-end solution concepts that connect customer problems to business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders—including Product Management, UX, Technology, Data Science, Operations, Marketing, and external partners—without direct authority, in a high-growth, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate strategy, tradeoffs, and recommendations to executive, business, and technical audiences.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, balancing strategic vision with pragmatic constraints in a fast‑paced, evolving market environment.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, including experience engaging customers, advisory groups, and industry stakeholders to validate strategy and inform product direction.
  • Proven ability to carry a roadmap through delivery — building the investment case that secures funding, framing scope, risk, and dependency tradeoffs, and holding teams to committed outcomes — with the technical fluency to engage in execution detail when needed.
  • Deep understanding of health plan buyer needs, procurement cycles, and provider directory operational workflows, including network management, provider data intake, directory maintenance, accuracy, and outreach.
  • Experience setting pricing, packaging, and positioning for data products and partnering with Marketing, Sales, and Account Management to drive adoption and expansion.

Experience & Education

  • 10+ years of product management, product strategy, data science, or healthcare data solutions experience, preferably within payer, provider, or health care information technology vendors.
  • Experience in supporting product development through engagement with a heavily vendor-driven development approach.
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory and compliance drivers behind provider directory accuracy — including No Surprises Act directory provisions, CMS Medicare Advantage and Medicaid directory accuracy requirements, and state network adequacy rules — and experience translating those requirements into data quality expectations and product decisions.
  • Domain experience in healthcare technology and data solutions, including privileging, data management, data governance, interoperability, and/or provider operations.
  • Experience developing and presenting strategic recommendations, business cases, and investment opportunities to executive leadership.
  • Familiarity with the provider directory and provider data vendor landscape.
  • Demonstrated success owning a product or domain end to end through a period of rapid growth, including launch and commercialization with health plan customers.
  • Experience managing network adequacy a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Degrees in healthcare administration, public health, or technology disciplines preferred.
