Own the vision, strategy, roadmap, and business outcomes for New Relic’s Dirac data platform. Lead storage, querying, at-rest processing, federation, data sovereignty, and AI-driven capabilities. Partner with customers, engineering, architecture, design, finance, sales, and marketing to deliver scalable observability products. Define platform metrics, manage unit economics, analyze customer and operational data, experiment with AI, and drive complex initiatives from strategy through launch.

We are a global team of innovators and pioneers dedicated to shaping the future of observability. At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!

Your opportunity

As a Product Manager for Dirac, you will own the product strategy for the platform that holds and serves our customers' data. You'll set the direction for how data is stored, processed at rest, queried, and federated across clouds, regions, and sovereign boundaries, and for how AI changes all of those.

This role spans four big areas:

  • Storage: Deciding how we store, tier, retain, and price data at enormous scale, and making sure the economics work for both customers and New Relic.
  • Query: Making Dirac the place customers go to ask questions, using NRQL, SQL, or natural language through AI. You'll own the experience for engineers, analysts, and agents alike.
  • At-rest processing: Moving work to the data instead of the other way around. This covers streaming alerts, continuous aggregation, and roll-ups that make large datasets fast and cheap to use.
  • Federation: Querying data where it lives, whether that's in New Relic, in the customer's own storage, or across regions. This covers New Relic Lens, data sovereignty and residency, and a single view across data the customer owns.

The team is customer-led, highly technical, and moves fast. You'll thrive here if you're curious and excitable about hard problems, comfortable with complexity and ambiguity, and like to experiment, including with AI, to find the answer instead of waiting for it. If you want to spend time with customers, go deep with engineers, and shape a platform used by thousands of companies, this is the role for you!

What you'll do

  • Own the vision and strategy for Dirac: Turn a long-term view of storage, at-rest processing, query, and federation into a clear, prioritized roadmap, and update it as the market and the technology change.
  • Act as a true full business owner: Take initiative to spot roadblocks, line up resources, and drive complex platform initiatives to completion. Know your query volume, data growth, unit costs, and margins.
  • Define the future of querying observability data: Shape how customers use NRQL, SQL, and AI-driven natural language queries, and how AI agents become first-class users of the platform.
  • Drive at-rest processing: Define the product for streaming alerts, aggregation, and in-platform processing, so customers get answers faster and spend less to get them.
  • Lead federation and data sovereignty: Build the strategy for querying data across clouds, regions, and customer-owned storage, including Lens, data residency, and compliance requirements.
  • Experiment with AI, both in the product and in your own work: Prototype, test, and ship AI features on top of the platform. Use AI tools every day to move faster, analyze data, and level up your craft.
  • Talk with customers constantly: From the largest enterprises to fast-growing startups, learn how they store and query data, where they get stuck, and what they wish they could do.
  • Be data-driven: Define and track platform metrics such as query volume, latency, data stored, cost per GB, and adoption, and use them to make decisions and tell the story.
  • Partner across the company: Work closely with engineering, architecture, design, finance, sales, and marketing to deliver end-to-end value and successful go-to-market launches.
  • Bring clarity to complexity: Explain deep technical tradeoffs to engineers in 20 minutes and to executives in 20 seconds, and get people aligned when the path isn't obvious.

This role requires

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. A background in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of product management experience building and launching technical products, ideally platform, data, or infrastructure products.
  • A strong technical foundation. You can go deep on storage, query engines, distributed systems, and cloud architecture with your engineering partners.
  • Hands-on experience with AI and LLM tools, both to make yourself more productive and to build products on top of them.
  • A proven ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and turn it into high-impact decisions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and complexity. You can take a vague problem and turn it into an actionable plan.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and the ability to lead through influence rather than authority.
  • A strong bias for action. You don't wait for direction; you figure out what needs to happen and lead the charge.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience with databases, data warehouses, lakehouses, or query engines (e.g. ClickHouse, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Druid, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience with observability
  • Experience with streaming and real-time processing systems (e.g. Kafka, Flink).
  • Familiarity with data sovereignty, data residency, or regulated environments (e.g. FedRAMP, HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Direct experience with observability products or telemetry data at scale.
  • Experience with usage-based pricing, unit economics, or COGS on a data platform.
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure services (AWS / Azure / GCP).
  • Enterprise B2B SaaS experience with a developer or data persona.
