Plan and manage new product introductions and continuous improvement for manufactured products. Ensure product quality, perform root-cause analysis, lead corrective actions, implement engineering change orders, design factory equipment and layouts, create work instructions, support audits, and liaise with customers and internal departments to meet requirements.
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for our Buffalo Grove, IL facility. In this role you will contribute to the control of the quality, configuration, and introduction of all manufactured product. Lead multiple projects including new product introduction and continual improvement activities. Be responsible for the assurance of customer requirements as it relates to product quality and function. Occasionally required to coordinate activities of departments both internal and external to BG operations.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Plan and manage the seamless introduction of new products from the design phase to volume production. Create and ensure project launch schedules, coordinate regular launch status meetings, prepare and control all product related master data, create manufacturing work instructions and implement line balancing, advise the design team regarding manufacturability, train employees, coordinate the construction of engineering prototypes, etc.
- Performs duties related to requests for customer specified product. Evaluate product design, develop necessary procedures/processes, establish customer promise dates, etc. Communicate with customers to resolve any issues.
- Maintain processes essential to assure product quality. Analyze quality data and trends. Create quality performance reports for customers and for internal use. Interface with customers to determine root causes of failures. Communicate corrective actions to customers.
- For systemic and daily quality issues and component failures, troubleshoot, perform and analyze root causes of failures and create corrective action plans. Lead inspection, segregation, and/or modification of component or finished goods inventory as required. Analyze the product and authorize or restrict the use of suspect product for Production and for sale to customers. Evaluate the impact of these decisions on production stoppages and customer requirements.
- Investigate and analyze product and process changes. Create and oversee Engineering Change Order implementation among effected departments (i.e. Supply Chain Management, Production, etc.).
- Design and implement factory equipment. Create factory layouts and incorporate new equipment.
- Design and approve packing methods for shipment of products according to ISTA standards and guidelines.
- Participate in ISO and customer audits. Assists with external audits that relate to certification agencies such as UL, CE, TUV, etc. Support communication with auditing agencies and customers to resolve open issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Quality Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in an ISO certified manufacturing environment.
- Advanced knowledge of business operations including production planning, scheduling, MRP, ATP, and capacity planning. Thorough understanding of Product Data Management and its impact on Supply Chain Management. Experience with manufacturing concepts such as factory layout, line balancing, workflow analysis, employee training, cost analysis, etc.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles. Ability to develop, read, and comprehend complex mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and all related tolerances.
- Strong knowledge gained from actual experience with mechanical fabrication processes (i.e. sheet metal fabrication and finishing principles including painting and plating, welding, die casting, turning, and stamping, as well as cabling assemblies).
- Strong knowledge of UL/cUL/CE, JIS, NEMA, or other international standards and protocols. Strong knowledge of ISTA packaging compliance standards related to Drop and Vibration Testing.
- Strong knowledge gained from actual experience with quality control methodologies such as root cause failure analysis, corrective actions processes, SPC, MTBF, FMEA, and FIT.
- Strong problem solving and process improvement ability. Excellent project management and organizational skills, strong self-initiative, and efficient multi-tasking abilities.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9000:2000 standards and compliance requirements. Experience with generating and maintaining procedures, work instructions, and forms. Ability to perform ISO audits.
- Excellent computer skills including advanced knowledge and proficiency with latest version of SAP, AutoCad, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Access. Exposure to Pro-Engineer or other solid modeling applications.
- Advanced analytical and trouble shooting skills. Excellent communication skills, including training and presentation abilities.
