Design and optimize mechanical subsystems for engine applications using 3D CAD and simulation (FEA/DVA). Resolve field issues, create drawings/BOMs, develop specifications, support validation, and coordinate cross-functional stakeholders to improve product reliability and manufacturability.
We are looking for a talented Product System Design Engineer to join our team in Engineering in De Pere, WI.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Drive timely resolution of VPI and field issues by identifying root causes, recommending corrective actions, and owning design solutions through to closure.
- Deliver high-quality design decisions by applying standard engineering processes (DFMEA, Design Reviews, validation checklists) and leveraging tools such as CREO and ANSYS.
- Strengthen product performance by supporting concept selection, optimization, and specification development across components and subsystems.
- Influence cross-functional alignment by communicating clear design intent through structured Design Review packages and engaging technical stakeholders.
- Improve product reliability and quality by incorporating validation and analysis insights into design refinements and decision-making.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by executing established engineering processes while identifying opportunities to enhance tools, systems, and workflows.
- Build technical capability by independently managing moderately complex design challenges and expanding knowledge of products, systems, and applications.
- Enhance team effectiveness by collaborating across disciplines, coordinating with technicians or support resources, and contributing to shared engineering and program goals.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Integrate cross-functional requirements into design solutions by translating stakeholder needs into validated system designs and clearly communicating design capability through structured design reviews.
- Apply strong mechanical design and analysis skills by developing accurate CAD models and leveraging simulation tools (FEA, DVA) to inform design decisions and optimize performance.
- Design robust mechanical systems by considering full lifecycle requirements (performance, durability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost) to meet both customer and business needs.
- Develop precise engineering specifications by creating detailed models, drawings, and BOMs that ensure manufacturability, quality, and alignment with industry and Cummins standards.
- Leverage simulation and modeling to drive decisions by using analytical tools to predict product performance and validate designs against system and component-level requirements.
- Demonstrate strong product problem-solving capability by identifying root causes, implementing data-driven corrective actions, and preventing recurrence through systemic improvements.
- Execute with discipline across the product lifecycle by managing requirements, configuration, and change control while ensuring alignment to program timelines, quality targets, and stakeholder expectations.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively by working across functions, making timely decisions, documenting technical insights, and continuously developing skills while valuing diverse perspectives.
