Job Description

Ladgov Corporation is seeking a qualified Protestant Music Director to support Protestant worship services, volunteer choirs, special religious services, and Command events at Naval Station Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Illinois.

The position requires an experienced piano accompanist and worship leader who can direct volunteer choirs, lead congregational worship music, coordinate musical selections with Navy Chaplains, and support a welcoming and effective worship environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide piano and instrumental accompaniment for Protestant worship services, choir rehearsals, memorials, celebrations, and special events.
  • Lead congregational worship music with the support of volunteer choirs.
  • Direct volunteer Protestant choirs at the Recruit Memorial Chapel and Bluejacket Memorial Chapel.
  • Recommend appropriate contemporary Christian worship music in coordination with the officiating Chaplain.
  • Meet weekly with the officiating Chaplain to plan music for worship services and special events.
  • Conduct choir rehearsals at times convenient for participants.
  • Support religious holiday services, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.
  • Develop positive relationships and promote teamwork among choir members, praise teams, and chapel volunteers.
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before each scheduled worship service.
  • Attend monthly coordination meetings and provide written and verbal reports of completed work.
Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience as a piano accompanist in a contemporary Christian church.
  • At least two years of worship-music leadership experience in a contemporary Christian church.
  • Ability to perform various praise-and-worship genres and sacred music styles appropriate for contemporary Christian worship.
  • Experience leading volunteer choirs, praise teams, or similar church music groups.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to understand Navy organizational and pluralistic ministry requirements.
  • Ability to meet Naval Station Great Lakes access requirements.
Schedule
  • Two Protestant worship services every Sunday—one at each chapel.
  • Choir rehearsals for volunteer choirs at both chapels.
  • Occasional religious holiday services, memorials, celebrations, and Command events.
  • Each service or rehearsal typically lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Specific service and rehearsal times will be coordinated with chapel leadership.
