About the Team:

You’ll be joining a team working at the intersection of AI infrastructure and developer platforms, with a shared mission to make advanced voice technology accessible through reliable, well-designed APIs.

We collaborate closely across backend, infrastructure, and machine learning teams to build systems that power real-time voice applications used by developers worldwide.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Python Backend Engineer to help build and scale the Async Developer Platform and Voice API.

This role focuses on designing and implementing high-performance backend services and APIs that power our real-time voice infrastructure. You will work on systems responsible for streaming audio, handling API traffic at scale, and ensuring reliable low-latency performance for developers integrating our platform.

You will collaborate closely with our ML engineers who build the models, while focusing on production infrastructure, API reliability, and developer experience.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Design and implement backend services for the Async developer platform
• Build and maintain high-performance Python APIs powering real-time voice systems
• Develop and maintain REST and WebSocket APIs for streaming speech generation
• Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our API infrastructure
• Build tools and systems that improve the developer experience of integrating Async APIs
• Work closely with ML engineers and researchers to integrate speech and audio models into production services
• Monitor, debug, and optimize backend services running in production
• Improve observability, logging, and monitoring across API services
  

We’re looking for someone with the following skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering
• Strong proficiency in Python and software engineering best practices
• Experience building REST APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI
• Solid understanding of asynchronous programming in Python (asyncio)
• Experience working with production databases (PostgreSQL or similar)
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred)
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have:

• Experience building WebSocket or streaming APIs
• Experience working with high-throughput or low-latency systems
• Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub)
• Experience building developer platforms or API products
• Experience working with audio, speech, or real-time media systems
