Job Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting new business development, product onboarding, and inspection process handoff/training all manufacturing facilities. This role serves as the bridge between Sales, Program Management, Engineering, and Operations to ensure new products are successfully quoted, launched, validated, and transferred into production. 

The position provides technical leadership during the quoting process, develops inspection strategies and CMM programs, creates quality plans and control documentation, trains site personnel, and ensures successful handoff of new products into ongoing production. The Quality Engineer drives consistency of quality processes, inspection methodologies, and customer requirements across all facilities. 


This is a remote position that requires up to 50% travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Quoting & Pre-Award Support 

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements during the quotation process. 
  • Assess manufacturability and inspect ability of new products. 
  • Develop inspection time estimates and quality-related labor requirements for quotations. 
  • Evaluate customer-specific quality clauses, compliance requirements, and inspection methodologies. 
  • Support costing activities by identifying equipment, fixturing, gaging, and inspection resource requirements. 
  • Serve as the quality representative during customer technical reviews and contract review activities. 

New Product Introduction (NPI) 

  • Lead quality planning activities for all new products entering the organization. 
  • Develop inspection plans, control plans, first article strategies, and validation requirements. 
  • Coordinate product launches across multiple manufacturing facilities. 
  • Ensure customer quality requirements are effectively translated into site-level processes. 
  • Support PPAP, FAIR, AS9102, and customer-specific qualification requirements. 
  • Drive risk identification and mitigation activities during product launch. 

Metrology & CMM Programming 

  • Develop and validate CMM programs for new and existing products. 
  • Establish standardized inspection methodologies across business units. 
  • Support troubleshooting and optimization of existing CMM programs. 
  • Select appropriate inspection equipment and gaging solutions. 
  • Develop measurement strategies for complex machined components. 
  • Maintain CMM programming standards and best practices across all facilities. 

Quality System & Documentation 

  • Create and maintain:  
  • Control Plans 
  • Inspection Plans 
  • Work Instructions 
  • First Article Inspection Plans 
  • Process Flow Diagrams 
  • Quality Verification Requirements 
  • Customer-Specific Quality Requirements 
  • Ensure documentation complies with AS9100, ISO 9001, customer, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Standardize documentation formats and quality practices across facilities. 

Training & Facility Support 

  • Train quality inspectors, engineers, programmers, and production personnel on new products and quality requirements. 
  • Develop training materials and qualification processes. 
  • Mentor site quality teams on inspection methodologies and problem-solving techniques. 
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer between corporate and site personnel. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across all facilities. 

Product Launch & Site Handoff 

  • Lead product readiness reviews prior to production release. 
  • Verify inspection equipment, programs, training, and documentation are in place before launch. 
  • Coordinate successful transfer of new products into production operations. 
  • Establish acceptance criteria and monitoring plans during production ramp-up. 
  • Provide launch support until the facility demonstrates sustained production capability. 
  • Conduct formal handoff meetings and turnover of ownership to site operations and quality teams. 

Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify opportunities to improve quality planning, inspection methodology, and product launch processes. 
  • Drive standardization across all manufacturing locations. 
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to new product launches. 
  • Implement best practices that improve quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Skills & Attributes

  • CMM programming experience (Zeiss Calypso XXT-RDS & Vast-XT).  
  • GD&T interpretation and application.  
  • Blueprint reading and inspection planning.  
  • First Article Inspection (AS9102) experience.  
  • Control Plans, PFMEA, and Process Flow Development.  
  • Statistical process control and measurement system analysis.  
  • Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action methodologies.  

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field preferred. 
  • 5+ years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.  
  • 10+ years of CMM programming experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing sites preferred.  
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and product launch activities.  
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace, defense, medical, and precision machining quality requirements preferred.  
  • Experience with AS9100, ISO 13485, and customer-specific quality systems. 

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift 15 lbs. when required.  
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Travel up to 50% to support facilities
