Job Title: Quality Engineer
Department: Operations
Reports To (Title): Jamie Adams, VP of Global Strategy
Position Summary:
Sko-Die, LLC — an Associated Metal Forming Technologies (AMFT) company — is adding quality engineering support at its Morton Grove, IL precision stamping facility as the site builds out its aerospace and defense program work.
Morton Grove is becoming AMFT's Chicago-area hub for aerospace and defense manufacturing. The site recently achieved AS9100 certification and is now taking on new product and assisting Milwaukee with launch programs as well. This role owns the launch-quality documentation that comes with that growth — APQP through PPAP submission, First Article Inspection Reports, Certificates of Conformance, and source inspection support — while helping put day-to-day rigor around a quality system that is new to the building.
This is a hands-on documentation and compliance role, not a supervisory one. Roughly 85% of the work supports Morton Grove; the remaining 15% supports the Milwaukee, WI facility, where new product is launching and recent departures have left PPAP and APQP work needing coverage.

Engagement: Contract, 3–6 months, with potential to convert to permanent Location: Onsite, Morton Grove, IL — 100% onsite expected Travel: Milwaukee, WI (approx. 1 hour). Expect a couple of days per week initially, easing to a couple of days per month Openings: 1–2 Start: ASAP

Key Responsibilities:

Launch quality documentation (primary)
  • Build and maintain APQP documentation packages for new and transferred programs — process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and supporting records
  • Compile and submit PPAP packages through customer approval, including dimensional results, material and performance test results, measurement system analysis, and process capability studies
  • Prepare First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) to AS9102 for new and revised parts
  • Issue Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) and assemble the supporting documentation trail
  • Submit and manage documentation through customer quality portals, and track submissions through to disposition
  • Support source inspection activity — coordinate customer and third-party source inspectors, prepare the required documentation, and close out findings
Quality system support
  • Help mature the site's AS9100 system — tighten procedures, records, and audit readiness following initial certification
  • Support internal and customer audits, and assist with corrective action documentation
  • Work alongside tooling, process, and manufacturing engineering on quality requirements for new tooling and program releases

Milwaukee support (approx. 15%)
  • Assist with PPAP and APQP documentation for new product launches at the Milwaukee facility
  • Provide interim coverage for quality engineering work in a mixed industrial and aerospace environment

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years in a quality engineering role within stamping, precision metal forming, machining, or a comparable discipline
  • Hands-on ownership of APQP and PPAP submissions — not oversight of someone else's packages
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 requirements in a production environment
  • Experience preparing AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports
  • Strong GD&T and blueprint interpretation
  • Experience submitting through customer quality portals
  • Comfortable working in and documenting to an ERP system
  • Able to work independently in a site where the quality system is still maturing — this role needs someone who will build structure, not wait to be handed it
  • Must meet US person / ITAR eligibility requirements for work on controlled programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IATF 16949 exposure alongside AS9100
  • Aerospace or defense program experience, particularly on transferred or newly-launched product
  • Experience supporting source inspection and customer quality audits
  • CMMC or controlled-documentation environment familiarity
  • Background in a multi-site or recently acquired/integrating manufacturing organization
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience

Work Environment:

70,000 sq ft precision stamping facility running 30+ punch presses from 5 to 440 tons. Aerospace, defense, medical device, energy, transportation, and electronics end markets. Steel-toed footwear and safety glasses required on the floor.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.
We look forward to hearing from you and exploring how you can contribute to the continued success of Associated Spring US, LLC
