About the Role:

The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for directing all day-to-day quality assurance and quality control activities within the plant, ensuring products consistently meet engineering specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements. This role oversees the Quality Technicians and Batch Plant personnel while ensuring the Quality Management System (QMS) is executed consistently across all production departments.

The Quality Control Supervisor works closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Shipping to proactively identify quality risks, support production, and drive continuous improvement. This position serves as the operational leader of quality by ensuring inspection, testing, documentation, and process control activities are completed accurately and consistently.


Key Responsibilities:

Quality Operations

  • Direct all daily quality control activities. Ensure inspections and testing are completed in accordance with company

             procedures and industry standards.

  • Verify production complies with engineering drawings, specifications, and approved mix designs.
  • Coordinate daily quality priorities with Production. Ensure timely communication of quality concerns.

Department Leadership

  • Daily work assignments. Employee coaching
  • Performance management including Cross-training, Accountability, Workforce development, Scheduling of quality personnel

Production Support

  • Support production during setup, casting, stripping, finishing, and shipping. Verify products meet acceptance criteria prior to release.
  • Provide technical guidance to supervisors and production personnel. Assist with troubleshooting production issues.
  • Support new product introductions and process changes.

Batch Plant Oversight

  • Ensure batching operations follow approved mix designs. Verify batching accuracy and consistency.
  • Monitor raw material quality. Coordinate aggregate moisture testing and adjustments.
  • Ensure calibration schedules are maintained. Support optimization of concrete performance.

Testing & Inspection

  • Oversee and verify: Fresh concrete testing, Compressive strength testing, Air content, Slump/flow, Unit weight, Temperature, Material certifications, Product dimensional inspections, Strand and reinforcement inspections, Embed verification, Final product inspections, Calibrations, Mix Design Assessments.

Documentation

  • Maintain inspection records. Ensure testing documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Verify traceability of materials and products. Review production records for completeness.
  • Maintain quality databases and reports.

Corrective & Preventive Actions

  • Investigate quality issues. Participate in root cause analysis.
  • Implement corrective actions. Verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Monitor recurring quality trends. Support preventive improvement initiatives.

QMS

  • Execute the company's Quality Management System. Ensure quality procedures are followed consistently.
  • Conduct process audits. Maintain compliance with PCI, ACI, ASTM, and company standards.
  • Support internal and external audits.

Safety

  • Promote safe laboratory and field testing practices. Ensure safe handling of testing equipment and materials.
  • Conduct safety observations. Participate in incident investigations.
  • Maintain laboratory housekeeping and organization.

Training & Development

  • Plan out the training of new Quality Technicians. Support production employee quality training.
  • Reinforce quality procedures. Mentor new employees.
  • Ensure technicians maintain required certifications. Promote a culture of quality ownership throughout the plant.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve quality processes. Reduce defects and rework.
  • Improve inspection efficiency. Standardize inspection procedures.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Improve First Pass Yield through proactive quality controls.

Communication

  • Conduct daily quality meetings. Communicate inspection findings promptly.
  • Escalate significant quality concerns. Coordinate disposition of nonconforming products.
  • Provide timely quality feedback to Production.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain and review: Daily inspection reports, Concrete test reports, Strength reports, Nonconformance reports, Corrective action documentation, Batch records, Calibration records, Audit findings, Quality KPI dashboards

Qualifications:

Required

Preferred

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate’s degree in Construction Management
  • Concrete Technology
  • Engineering Technology
  • Manufacturing
  • Quality Management
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I certification, or ability to obtain within an established timeframe.
  • PCI Level I certification, or ability to obtain within an established timeframe.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required company safety and quality certifications.
  • PCI Level II or III certification.
  • Additional ACI certifications related to concrete testing and inspection.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • ASQ Quality certifications.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment supporting Quality Control operations
  • 3+ years leadership experience
  • Experience performing or overseeing concrete testing and product inspections.
  • Experience identifying nonconforming product and coordinating corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability analyze process, develop improvements, and implement change
  • 3+ years of experience in precast/prestressed concrete quality control.
  • Previous supervisory or quality leadership experience.
  • Experience overseeing Quality Technicians and/or batch plant personnel.
  • Experience supporting PCI-certified manufacturing operations.
  • Experience preparing for or participating in internal, PCI, customer, or third-party audits.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, engineering specifications, production drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge of concrete testing including slump/flow, air content, temperature, unit weight, and compressive strength testing.
  • Understanding of dimensional inspection, reinforcement, strand placement, embeds, and final product acceptance requirements.
  • Understanding of concrete batching, approved mix designs, aggregate moisture adjustments, and material traceability.
  • Ability to identify nonconforming conditions and determine when issues require escalation.
  • Strong root cause analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inspection, testing, calibration, and quality records.
  • Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office proficiency. Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft office proficiency
  • Working knowledge of PCI, ACI, and ASTM requirements applicable to precast/prestressed concrete manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of concrete mix behavior, SCC, admixtures, curing, and strength development.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS), process audits, and corrective/preventive action programs.
  • Experience monitoring and improving First Pass Yield (FPY), defect rates, rework, and other quality KPIs.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
  • Ability to lead, train, develop, and hold Quality Technicians and other assigned personnel accountable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate quality concerns to Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Shipping, and leadership.
  • Ability to balance production needs with quality requirements without compromising established standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote quality ownership and accountability throughout production.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple quality issues and make timely decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing Quality Technicians and building cross-training plans.
  • Experience leading quality meetings, corrective-action reviews, and root cause investigations.
  • Demonstrated success improving quality performance, reducing recurring defects, and standardizing inspection processes.
