Quantum Research Data Scientist I

The Merz Lab is looking for an individual who will use fermion-to-qubit mappings in the context of quantum chemistry and electronic-structure calculations. As a Quantum Research Data Scientist for the Merz Lab, you will utilize statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling techniques to analyze complex datasets and develop algorithms that support research initiatives. The role centers on developing and implementing quantum and hybrid algorithms to support biomedical research initiatives.

In this role, you will design, simulate, and execute quantum and hybrid algorithms to address complex computational challenges in biomedical research. You will also apply programming skills using tools such as SAS, SQL, SPSS, R, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages to perform data analytics, generate insights, and contribute to data-driven decision-making.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on-site at Main Campus.

To be considered for this position, caregivers must reside in Northeast Ohio.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Utilize basic statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling techniques to build algorithms and perform data analytics.
• Utilize programming skills in languages such as SAS, SQL, SPSS, R, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
• Perform basic data analysis including data validation, investigation, and hypothesis testing.
• Assist Principal Investigator in transforming data to support research questions and develop basic predictive and statistical models using modeling tools.
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency in data extraction, reporting, programming, and operations.
• Curate and process complex clinical and biological data sets.
• Communicate and present research findings as needed.
• Identify technical issues and manage resolution for analytics programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field and two years of experience conducting data analytics, math or statistical modeling or machine learning
• OR Master’s or PhD degree
• Proficiency with programing skills in languages such as SAS, SQL, SPSS, R, Python, MATLAB or similar

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Advanced quantum computing skills, including Python
• Experience with fermion-to-qubit mapping
• Experience with error mitigation techniques, noise modeling, and circuit optimization for near-term quantum devices
• Experience developing quantum computing applications using Qiskit

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
• In some locations, ability to move up to 15 pounds
