Job Title: Radiologic Technologist, Lead Imaging Technologist - DEXA

Summary

The Lead Radiology Technologist, DEXA oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the clinic's imaging  department, (DEXA, Ultrasound) ensuring high-quality imaging services and patient care, regulatory compliance, efficient workflows, and optimal use of technology, balancing leadership with clinical oversight to support DEXA and Ultrasound technologists. This role combines hands-on radiologic imaging duties with leadership responsibilities, including supervising staff, managing workflow, maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and optimizing departmental efficiency. The lead technologist serves as a resource for complex procedures, trains and mentors staff, and liaises with physicians, patients, and administrative personnel to ensure smooth operations.

Expectations

  • Monday - Friday. Occasional weekends as needed
  • Hours 7am-4/5pm
  • No holidays or call
  • Travel to Morton Grove and Bannockburn required

Responsibilities

  • Perform all the duties of a Radiology DEXA staff member in the DEXA department, including performing dexa scans and analysis.
  • Assist in managing DEXA and Ultrasound staffing schedule/calendar and assign staff for call-ins.
  • Responsible for following up on Epic, PACS issues, scheduling concerns, patient calls
  • Support facilitation of new hire training (shadow clinic, epic training, cross training, etc).
  • Participate in interview process of candidates through in-person shadowing interviews
  • Performing periodic instrument quality assurance (QA) procedures as required to assure high quality testing and compliance with state law and various research quality assurance monitoring centers.
    • Maintains QA and equipment records
  • Research quality improvement opportunities in clinical workflow and implement into practice
  • Assist with policy development and implementation with the staff
  • Maintains service records and facilities service as needed
  • Helps identify, evaluate, and resolve potential safety issues for the department and the practice
  • Other duties as outlined by the Radiology Manager.
  • Performing radiologic procedures as ordered by the physician/provider in such a way as to assure patient safety and reliability of results for diagnostic radiographs
  • Receiving and interpreting requests and/or instructions for radiologic procedures
  • Accurately inputting patient information for proper identification of patient images
  • Manipulating radiographic equipment and adjusting imaging controls for the procedure being performed
  • Providing assistance to patients with such tasks as dressing, changing or removing items which may interfere with the procedure being performed
  • Using appropriate body mechanics to assist patients in transferring to and from imaging table
  • Gaining the cooperation of the patient to ensure accurate positioning
  • Utilizing radiation safety measures, and protection devices to comply with state and federal regulations as well as to ensure the safety of the patient, staff and self
  • Observing the patient during all radiographic procedures to ensure patient safety
  • Reviewing and evaluating computer generated images to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic evaluation
  • Maintaining logs of radiologic procedures
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, to include the use of personal protective equipment as needed
  • Assisting in maintaining appropriate equipment and supplies in the department
  • Completing other comparable duties and assignments as directed by the Radiology Manager
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education

  • Associate’s degree in radiologic technology from an accredited school or two (2) years of experience in a directly related area. Bachelor's degree (preferred).

Certifications/Licensure

  • Valid state Radiologic Technologist license
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Certified in bone densitometry by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), preferred.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in a directly related area preferred
  • Previous Bone Density experience preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Possess good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications. Able to interact with computers to enter data or process information
  • Knowledgeable in computer systems (e.g. PACS), MS Word, Excel and others.
  • Ability to learn from, and provide training to, others regarding proper safety and patient handling procedures
  •  Work may require hand dexterity for machine operation, using a calculator and/or computer keyboard.

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to document/record information
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well and communicate professionally with physicians, patients and staff in all levels in the organization

  • Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of instructions
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strength and weaknesses of alternate solutions or approaches to a problem
  • Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making 

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be physically able to assist patients during ambulation and examination
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of a changing scheduling environment and accommodate the needs of the practice
  • Physical demands may also include stooping, bending or reaching to files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, standing or sitting for extended periods of time and viewing a computer monitor
  • Requires considerable use of the arms, legs and whole body for pushing and pulling of equipment and materials and for lifting, balancing, walking while handling patients
  • Travel from site to site is required

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
