Develops and implements occupational health and safety policies across company facilities. Ensures OSHA compliance, recordkeeping, reporting, inspections, audits, risk assessments, and incident reviews. Conducts employee safety training, supports the safety committee, promotes hazard reporting, and represents the company with regulatory agencies. Requires strong leadership, communication, organizational skills, Microsoft Office proficiency, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and at least five years of industrial occupational health and safety experience.
Midwest Foods is a wholesale food distributor providing top quality food products to numerous food establishments in Chicago, surrounding suburbs, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. We import fruits and vegetables from all over the world and distribute these products to local markets. We are looking to complement our growth by hiring a Safety Director.
The Safety Director will develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the organization.
Job type: on site, overseeing and managing all company facilities
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00AM-5:30PM
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Ensures that the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations and regulations are properly maintained.
- Create and update safety policies, procedures and programs.
- Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
- Foster a positive safety culture where employees feel comfortable reporting hazards and concerns.
- Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
- Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems. Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses.
- Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
- Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
- Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
- Represent the company in safety-related matters with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
- Reviews work related accidents, auto claims, and incident reports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Bachelors’ degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
- At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.
