Business Development Representative (BDR)About Elly

Elly helps growing companies hire exceptional talent.

We're a VC backed modern recruiting partner that combines experienced recruiters, proven hiring processes, and an AI-powered Hiring OS to help startups and scaling businesses hire faster and more effectively. Whether clients need contingency recruiting, retained search, embedded recruiting support, or fractional talent leadership, Elly acts as an extension of their team to solve hiring challenges and build world-class organizations.

We work with founders, executives, and talent leaders who need a trusted partner to help them attract and hire top talent in competitive markets.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for an ambitious Business Development Representative (BDR) to help introduce Elly to more companies and generate new business opportunities.

About the Role

As a Business Development Representative (BDR) at Elly, you'll be responsible for generating new business opportunities through high-volume outbound prospecting.

This is a true hunter role. You'll spend your days identifying potential clients, researching decision makers, making cold calls, sending targeted emails, engaging prospects on LinkedIn, and creating opportunities where none previously existed.

You'll be speaking with founders, CEOs, Heads of Talent, HR leaders, and hiring managers at growing companies to uncover hiring challenges and introduce them to Elly's recruiting solutions.

Success in this role comes from persistence, curiosity, strong communication skills, and a willingness to pick up the phone. If you're energized by building pipeline from scratch, opening doors with senior decision makers, and creating opportunities through outbound effort, you'll thrive here.

You'll work directly with leadership and have a meaningful impact on the growth of the business.

What You'll Do
  • Generate qualified meetings through outbound prospecting, including cold calling, email, LinkedIn outreach, and other creative channels.

  • Make a high volume of daily outbound calls to founders, executives, and talent leaders.

  • Identify companies with active hiring needs and research decision makers within target accounts.

  • Build and execute personalized outreach campaigns that drive engagement and meetings.

  • Qualify prospects by understanding hiring plans, growth goals, recruiting challenges, and urgency.

  • Schedule meetings for leadership and ensure smooth handoffs with complete account context.

  • Maintain accurate activity tracking and pipeline management within the CRM.

  • Partner with leadership to refine messaging, targeting, and outbound strategy.

  • Consistently exceed activity, meeting generation, and pipeline creation goals.

What You'll Bring
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales, business development, recruiting, staffing, or another highly outbound customer-facing role.

  • Strong phone presence and confidence initiating conversations with senior decision makers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Resilience and persistence when facing rejection.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain high levels of activity.

  • A competitive mindset and desire to exceed goals.

  • Genuine curiosity about businesses, hiring, and growth.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You may be a great fit if you are:

  • A top-performing SDR or BDR looking for more ownership and impact.

  • An agency recruiter who enjoys business development more than filling roles.

  • A staffing salesperson looking to join a modern recruiting business.

  • An HR tech SDR who understands recruiting and talent acquisition.

  • Someone who enjoys cold calling, prospecting, and creating opportunities through outbound effort.

  • Highly motivated by performance, commission, and career growth.

Bonus Points
  • Experience in recruiting, staffing, executive search, or talent acquisition.

  • Experience selling HR, recruiting, or professional services.

  • Experience using HubSpot, Salesforce, Apollo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Clay, or similar tools.

  • Experience working in startup or high-growth environments.

  • Familiarity with AI, automation, and modern go-to-market tools.

What Success Looks Like
  • Consistently achieving outbound activity goals.

  • Generating qualified meetings with founders, executives, and talent leaders.

  • Building a predictable pipeline of new business opportunities.

  • Becoming a trusted first point of contact for prospective clients.

  • Helping drive meaningful revenue growth for Elly.

Why Join Elly
  • Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission.

  • Direct access to company leadership and mentorship.

  • Opportunity to help shape and build the outbound sales function.

  • Clear growth path into Account Executive, Client Partner, or leadership roles.

  • Exposure to startups, founders, and some of the fastest-growing companies in the market.

  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where your work has a direct impact on company growth.

Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to assess communication skills, business acumen, prospecting ability, and overall fit for a high-performance outbound sales environment.

The process includes:

  • AI-powered interview with Elly focused on communication, critical thinking, and role alignment
  • Sales-focused interview covering prospecting, objection handling, and outbound strategy

  • Final conversation with leadership

We leverage AI throughout our business and recruiting process, and candidates should be comfortable interacting with modern AI tools and technology.

If you're excited about helping companies solve hiring challenges, enjoy creating opportunities through outbound sales, and want to build your career alongside a fast-growing company, we'd love to hear from you.
