Department Overview
Applied Technology is a business unit within Motorola Solutions that specializes in advanced communications products for government and industry customers. This business is aggressively growing by expanding outside of our traditional government customer base by offering high volume products targeted for the defense industry. Our customer-centric, team-based environment provides an excellent growth opportunity for both business and engineering in enterprise markets where innovation is the primary focus.
Job Description

In this role you will be responsible for business development within Applied Technology with responsibility for driving the UAS business. You will identify, pursue, and negotiate partnerships and alliances in the strategic development of new business opportunities with Federal Government customers. You will promote and maintain strong business relationships and strive to leverage existing business and create new market possibilities especially for AT payloads for UASs and air platforms.

Your main tasks will be to drive business and sales growth for AT. You will interpret customer needs into new features and product offerings through collaboration with engineering, and other business teams. Your responsibilities will also include: develop product planning direction and help prioritize the product roadmap, conduct competitive analyses identifying trends and product opportunities, define product/service opportunities and conduct financial analysis on new product initiatives, define processes and tools to enhance the Business Development function.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance preferred.
  • Familiarity and experience with DoD acquisition processes highly desired.
  • Experience working within the Department of Defense, Military branches or civilian government roles
  • Successful experience with partnering and building industry teaming relationships.
  • Expertise in competitive assessments, price to win and market penetration strategies.
  • Management of the business development process, with special attention given to new opportunity identification, screening, forecasting, qualifying, pursuit, and capture.
  • Market research and business case analysis in support of strategic planning and opportunity capture.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 10+ years experience and must have substantial knowledge of the U.S. defense industry as well as its leadership structure and personnel (military and civilian).
  • Must have excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and be able to manage multiple competing priorities in short turn-around situations. 
  • Must be technically savvy and have the ability to match company capabilities with customer requirements
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with individuals and diverse groups of people in business and social settings.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communications and ability to build professional working relationships.
  • Be able to travel as needed for customer engagements 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract. Some contracts may have higher-level clearance requirements.
