The Short-Term Disability Analyst, primarily investigates claims to determine if the insured person qualifies for STD benefits and works with them on a treatment plan to return to work as soon as responsibly possible. The Short-Term Disability Analyst supports our mission of helping our customers rebuild their lives after an unexpected event or illness happens while following corporate claim standards, policies and procedures, and statutory, regulatory and ethics requirements.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, Naperville, IL, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Start Dates/ Training Details:

  • Stag Week: July 6th, 2026

  • Training Begins: July 13th, 2026

  • Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Virtual)

  • Duration: 6 weeks

Post-Training Schedule

  • Work Hours: Core Business Hours

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information related to long-term disability claims.

  • Deliver outstanding customer service through professional written and verbal communication.

  • Collect and analyze information, applying critical thinking and mathematical skills to make sound decisions and draw accurate conclusions.

  • Apply business acumen and technical expertise to make ethical, well-informed decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment, with management guidance as needed.

  • Commit to meeting the expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers.

  • Contribute to a positive team culture that supports Group Benefit Claims Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and objectives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of quality customer service experience required.

  • At least 1 year of claims experience required

  • Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus.

  • Experience reviewing medical records strongly preferred.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • High attention to detail with consistent accuracy and quality, while meeting productivity goals in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work effectively within a structured team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to navigate multiple systems simultaneously.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$46,222-$68,200

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
