Job Description

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting key accounting functions. This position is responsible for compiling financial information, processing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and analyzing financial data. The Senior Accountant may support one or multiple business units and must possess strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally within the organization.

Position location: Deerfield, IL - Hybrid (Flexibility to work from home Mondays and Fridays)

RESPONSIBLIITIES:

What you will be doing

  • Execute month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and financial reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including balance sheet and income statement preparation.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making, process improvement and automation.
  • Manage key accounting functions such as cash and loan management, cost accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, prepaid expenses, and various accruals.
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, investigating and resolving variances as needed.
  • Assist with corporate reporting requirements and external audit requests.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting efforts.
  • Identify new opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency.
  • Stay current on relevant accounting standards and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 4+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA certification or CPA eligibility is a plus.
  • Experience in public accounting and/or working in a large corporation.
  • Familiarity with large ERP systems, preferably SAP and/or Oracle.
  • Experience with cost accounting and/or international accounting standards.

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $70,000 USD - $110,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
