About Moonlite AI

Moonlite builds the infrastructure behind ambitious AI.

We design, deploy, and operate high-performance GPU systems for large-scale model training, computational research, and intensive data workloads. We combine bare-metal performance with the reliability and simplicity teams expect from the cloud.

What’s next in AI needs matching infrastructure. We’re building the team to make it happen.

Position Overview

Moonlite AI is seeking an experienced accounting professional to lead the company's accounting operations as we build out our finance function. Reporting to the SVP of Finance, this individual will be responsible for the integrity of the company's financial records, the monthly close process, and the policies and controls that support them. The role will also partner closely with the finance team on working capital planning and debt covenant monitoring and reporting.

This is an individual contributor role with significant visibility and the opportunity to shape the company’s accounting infrastructure. As the finance function scales, this role has the potential to grow into a Controller role. Moonlite is open to structuring this position as either a full-time role or a contract engagement with the potential to convert to full-time.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Own the general ledger and lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, delivering accurate and timely financial statements, supporting schedules, and budget-to-actual variance analysis for management reporting
  • Manage multi-entity accounting, including consolidation, intercompany transactions, and eliminations across operating entities and special purpose vehicles
  • Apply technical accounting for multi-year customer contracts and capital-intensive assets, including revenue recognition and deferred revenue (ASC 606), lease classification (ASC 842), and the fixed asset register (capitalization, depreciation, vendor deposits, and assets in transit)
  • Manage customer billing for multi-year compute contracts, including prorated invoices, prepayment and credit drawdown schedules, and billing from the appropriate legal entity
  • Ensure proper accounting for debt agreements, including term loans, bridge facilities, and equipment financing, covering issuance costs, interest accrual, amortization schedules, and current and long-term classification
  • Oversee expense and invoice review, prepaids, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations, including review of automated reconciliations in Rillet and resolution of exceptions
  • Account for equity and payroll-related transactions, including stock-based compensation, payroll, and benefits, in coordination with legal and HR

Treasury, Working Capital, and Debt

  • Support debt covenant monitoring, compliance calculations, and lender reporting for the company's credit facilities
  • Support working capital planning and cash management, including cash reconciliations across all bank and treasury accounts

Controls, Compliance, and Process

  • Optimize the all financial systems to automate workflows, reconciliations, controls and processes
  • Establish audit readiness and serve as primary point of contact for future financial statement audits
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on income tax, R&D credit, sales and use, and property tax compliance, including preparing supporting schedules, tying out filings to the general ledger, maintaining state registrations, and responding to advisor requests
  • Design, document, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and close procedures, and support the company's SOC 2 program as it relates to finance processes
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including public accounting
  • Experience in a capital-intensive industry such as data centers, cloud infrastructure, telecommunications, or energy is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly revenue recognition, lease accounting, fixed assets, and debt
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidation
  • Demonstrated ability to build and improve accounting processes in a high-growth environment
  • Familiarity with modern finance systems; experience with Rillet, Ramp, Brex, and Rippling is a plus
  • Comfort using AI-enabled tools to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently
Compensation and Benefits

This role is based in our Chicago office on a hybrid (3-4 days per week) schedule.

The base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $170,000 plus equity. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and market alignment. We believe the people building Moonlite should share in what we build, so we offer startup equity alongside a strong benefits package covering health, retirement, and more.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
