Job Summary & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Accounting Manager to lead the financial operations of our growing property management portfolio. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep expertise in property accounting, strong operational oversight, and a commitment to accuracy in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in cash basis accounting and experience managing financials across multiple properties and clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions related to property management, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and owner distributions
  • Manage and mentor the accounting team -both onsite and virtual-, ensuring high performance, accountability  and professional development
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for property owners using cash basis accounting
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes across multiple properties and entities
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies
  • Prepare and review owner statements, financial packages, and performance reports
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines, ensuring timely delivery financial reporting and operational support
  • Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Oversee trust accounts and ensure proper handling of client funds
  • Utilize AppFolio software to manage accounting workflows, reporting, and data integrity
  • Develop, train and educate accounting policies, procedures and internal controls to support scalable growth.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and stakeholders as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience within property management or real estate
  • Proven leadership and team management experience, overseeing teams of 8-12 employees.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines within a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across departments and remote teams
  • Experience with client accounting and property financials
  • Proficiency in AppFolio or similar property management platforms (e.g., Yardi, Buildium, RealPage, Entrata)
  • Strong understanding of trust accounting and owner reporting
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting issues clearly and concisely to non-accountants
  • Experience managing accounting for multi-entity or multi-property portfolios preferred
  • Familiarity with property management compliance and regulatory requirements preferred
