Job Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in building and evolving this company’s core platform and product infrastructure. You will work across backend Node.js services, GraphQL-based APIs, and event-driven systems, owning features end-to-end from design through production.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in distributed systems, enjoys working with multiple microservices, and has strong experience with asynchronous workflows, messaging queues, and data integration. You’ll be responsible for designing scalable, resilient services, defining and evolving GraphQL schemas, integrating external systems, and building durable infrastructure that supports complex commerce and product use cases.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the design and implementation of durable software solutions.

  • Drive end-to-end initiatives across multiple layers of architecture.

  • Use systematic debugging to diagnose issues across the engineering team.

  • Foster a culture of observability across the engineering team. Help engineers use operational data to improve project performance.

  • Consistently write production-ready code that is easily testable, easily understood by other developers, and accounts for edge cases and errors.

  • Leverage an understanding of key trends across the industry to create value.

  • Provide critical input in prioritization, planning, and decision-making within the scope or domain of expertise.

  • Work with Shopify Admin API, Storefront API, and webhooks to support both merchant-facing and customer-facing experiences.

  • Commerce & Shopify Experience:

    A significant part of this role involves working with commerce platforms, including Shopify. You will collaborate on designing and maintaining integrations with Shopify, building extensions and custom workflows, and ensuring these systems interact reliably with our backend services and event-driven architecture.

    While deep Shopify specialization is not required, candidates should be comfortable working within the Shopify ecosystem and integrating it into larger distributed systems.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.

  • Experience with systems design and software patterns applicable at high growth startups.

  • Experience building and deploying robust and secure web APIs.

  • Experience with AWS infrastructure best practices.

  • Experience with modern frameworks (NestJS, Prisma) and TypeScript.
